Gullveig : Friend Of Wicked Women
Freyja and Njord returned to the Jarnvid forest, and awaited for Freyr to arrive. The Gods could feel the power of their spell in every drop of rain that fell upon them, and they knew that they had succeeded. Unlike the humans, however, the potion had no affect on them.
As the sky began to slowly lighten in the east, Freyja saw what looked to be a morning star shining in that direction. This bright " star ", however, did not move like a celestial body, and grew in size as she watched it approach. So bright was the boar that projected this light that as Freyr landed Freyja and Njord had to shade their eyes with their hands from its brilliance.
Freyr jumped off of the special saddle that Gullinborsti wore to protect its riders, and ran over to his father and sister.
" Can you feel it ! You two have created an incredibly powerful magic potion ! " Freyr shouted to them as he approached.
Njord, calm as ever, simply nodded in agreement, while his daughter grinned proudly from ear to ear.
" Yes ! I think that Gullveig has forgotten that it was I who she taught all of her magical tricks to. And I of course have improved upon her spells and potions over the years. " Freyja replied without an ounce of modesty.
Freyr hugged his sister.
" You truly are wonderful sister ! Your magic is the strongest in all the nine worlds ! " he told Freyja happily.
Freyja kissed her brother on the cheek before replying.
" That may well be my brother, but I am not powerful enough to bring on the storm, or make it rain as you did . Without your great power it would have taken a very long time to get the potion to all the Midgardians. " she told her brother.
Njord shook his head in disbelief.
" Children ! Children ! Are you not forgetting that Gullveig is still out there seeking revenge. And if she was angry before we intervened, I am certain that she is now furious with us for what we have done ! " he reminded his offspring.
Freyja and Freyr parted and nodded that they agreed with their father. Freyr walked over to Njord and placed his hand on his father's shoulder.
" What do you suggest we do about her ? " he asked.
Njord gave his son a look of surprise before answering.
" Why, we need to go after her of course ! " he replied.
Freyja stepped forward and shook her head in disagreement.
" No ! Neither of you have the power, or the knowledge of seidr that I do, and therefore should not chase after our dangerous Vanir sister. " she told them.
Then with a sigh she added :
" This is something I must do alone ! " she insisted.
Njord nodded, then walked over to Hlidisvini and mounted the great boar.
" Come Freyr ! We will leave Midgard and allow your sister to take care of this rogue Vanir Goddess herself. " he told his son.
Freyr slowly and reluctantly walked back to Gullinborsti, and hopped onto the shining boar.
" Are you sure this is a wise course of action father ? " he asked softly trying to hide his words from Freyja.
" Your sister is correct Feryr. No one, not even Odin himself, is as powerful as Gullveig and Fryeja. If we tag along all we will be is a distraction to her. For I fear that your sister will worry more about protecting us than defeating Gullveig. " he explained to his son.
Njord turned to Freyja and touched his hand to his head in the Vanir gesture of good luck.
" I have faith that you will do the best you can,.... but if you need our help don't hesitate to reach out to us. We will come at once ! " he told her.
Freyr touched his hand to his head before adding.
" May your seidr be strong sister ! "
Freyja waved to her father and brother as they rose into the now blue skies.
" Gullveig will need more than a potion to destroy me ! " Freyja whispered as she turned to leave the Jarnvid forest.
In a clearing just outside to the Iron Woods Freyja stopped and knelt in a plowed field. With all her might and magic she opened up a window in time and space to search for Gullveig.
" Odin, you are not the only one who can scan the nine worlds. " Freyja said out loud knowing full well that the All - father was watching.
With her mind she searched Midgard for the rogue Vanir Goddess who had been causing so many problems in the northern lands. If she was searching for a human it would have been a daunting task, but it was not difficult to find someone who projected as much power as a Vanir Goddess. It was as easy as scanning the sky for the sun on a clear day.
" Ah ! There you are you naughty little Goddess ! " Freyja exclaimed when she found Gullveig.
Freyja quickly drew in more power, and expanded the portal to make it large enough for her to move through. When it enlarged to a size to her liking she summoned into herself as much power as she could hold onto before jumping through the portal as though it were a hoop.
Gullveig had been standing in the middle of the road since Mjaðveig had scurried away like a frightened little mouse. There was no reason for her to go anywhere, and no place for her to hide. The The Queen of Seidr knew all too well that the Vanir Gods, now that they were aware that she had caused the disharmony here in Midgard, could find her no matter how far she traveled, or where she went in the nine worlds. It was for that reason that she was not surprised when she felt a great surge of power well up near her. Nor was she shocked when a portal opened up near her.
With an anger that had been growing inside of her since the end of the Aesir - Vanir War she summoned in every bit of elemental energy surrounding her and allowed it to build inside of her until she could barely contain it. Every orifice sparkled with raw cosmic energy needing to escape its host, but the Seidr Queen waited,.... and waited....
The moment Gullveig saw the form emerge from the portal she released a long burst of energy at the being. The elements shot forth out of her like sulfur water spewing from a geysir, and with the portal to aim at she could not miss !
Gullveig screamed out of sheer frustration ! Thinking that more than the Vanir Goddess would emerge from the portal she had held back much of the energy she had stored up within her. As the portal dissolved Gullveig realized, however, that only the pretty bitch Freyja had come through to confront her.
Freyja leaped out of the portal with a shield of pure cosmic energy held out in front of her. She had expected to be attacked immediately, and Gullveig had not disappointed her. With a quick flick of her wrist Freyja easily deflected away the powerful burst that Gullveig had directed at her. Then, just as quickly, the Goddess threw her powerful shield at Gullveig.
With her energy slightly diminished from the first burst Gullveig knew she could not withstand the force of the shield that was flinging toward her at an incredible speed. Instead she levitated herself off of the ground in the blink of an eye allowing Freyja's cosmic energy shield to pass harmlessly beneath her.
The two Vanir Goddesses circled around each other like wrestlers looking for an opening move to take the other down. Both had elemental and cosmic energy sparkling from their eyes, and with every breath they took it came out of their mouths and noses like breath being released on a bitterly cold day.
Gullveig was next to strike ! With the power of her seidr, and the great will of her mind, she uprooted several trees along the road and allowed them to fall toward Freyja. The Seidr Goddess laughed as the trees ripped their roots out of the ground and tipped over.
" Timber ! " The Goddess giggled.
Freyja was not impressed in the least. Utilizing the elemental power of lightning she split the tops off of each of the trees and threw them aside, so that the remaining trunks fell harmlessly just short of where she was standing.
" Well done Vanir Princess ! " Gullveig exclaimed.
Freyja did not find any humor in her words.
" You would know ! You were the one who taught me Vanir seidr ! " she reminded her opponent.
The thought that she had given her opponent Freyja the skills that she now used against her angered her. Gullveig screamed as though she were in sheer agony ! With the great power contained within her, the Goddess of Seidr picked up a huge boulder deposited by the side of the road during the last ice age, and threw it at Freyja with all the strength she could muster.
Unfazed by this new show of strength, Freyja, using her well trained mind, concentrated a burst of lightning at the boulder, and let it shoot out of her hand like an arrow. The bolt of the purest of electrical power hit the great stone with such a force that it split the rock in half, much the way a wedge splits a log for fire wood. Both ends of the great boulder landed on either side of Freyja, who seemed unconcerned by how close they fell to her. The Vanir Goddess began to realize that as long as she did not attack Gullveig, and waste her power, the Seidr Goddess could not harm her.
Gullveig took Freyja's defensive posture as a sign of weakness and began to throw every bit of power at Freyja in every form she could think of. Time after time she hit Freyja with lightning, bursts of wind, and a very strong energy that emanated from the atomic level. The Queen of Seidr grinned maniacally as her opponent disappeared in a cloud of dust and debris. When she had used up her cosmic and elemental powers Gullveig stood giggling, satisfied that she had destroyed the Vanir beauty queen. Then as the smoke began to slowly clear she saw something that she simply could not believe !
As the dust settled a bright light emerged from the cloud. When it increased in intensity Gullveig realized that she had badly underestimated her opponent. The moment from the flash of pure energy that shot out of Freyja's hands, to the time it hit Gullveig was a mere blink of an eye, .... and yet the Goddess of Seidr was still able to manage one word :
" Oh ! "
