Logi : The Ruler Of Fire
Loki Strikes Again !
Loki is not like those who have pure souls. He does not think with his heart, or with a wisdom that considers the ramifications of his actions. Loki, cares only about himself, and if his evil plans affect others, so be it ! As long as the great purveyor of chaos got what he wanted, then nothing else mattered. If one life, or ten thousand lives were affected, or even lost, Loki did not care !
When the heat from below began to subside Farbauti slowly moved closer to the edge of the cliff that overlooked the ravine. As he took a place next to Surtr he stared down at the tiny fire child that had been born from Glöð's spark, and Logi's breath. Surtr, seeing his friend from Jotunheim next to him, pointed down at the newborn.
" Have you ever seen anything as pretty as that tiny flickering flame of life named Eysa ?! " he asked proudly.
Farbauti smiled at Surtr as he stared into his burning eyes.
" No ! She appears perfect in every way. From the red glow of her feet, to the blue tone of her burning skin, she is very beautiful ! " he had to admit to his friend.
Surtr grinned proudly from ear to ear as though the newborn fire child was his own. When he turned to take another look down at the newborn he glowed even brighter with both pride and the heat he was generating from within.
" Look ! Logi is bringing out her first fire pit ! " The Fire Giant exclaimed.
Farbauti felt Surt's heat radiating forth and stepped a safe distance away from him.
" Judging by your reaction it is quite the wonderful moment ! " the Frost Giant replied.
" I am sorry old friend. I tend to get a little fired up at such moments. I will try and turn down my emotions. " he assured Farbauti.
The Frost Giant could not help but smile at the Fire Giant. He could tell by Surtr's demeanor that he was immensely proud that his good friend Logi and his wife had given birth to such a beautiful new addition to their clan. Before Farbauti walked back to the edge of the cliff again he looked over at his son. In his face and posture he saw something much different than pride. Loki's expression, and the gleam in his eyes, hinted that his son was planning something evil. And what worried the Ruler of the Frost Giants most was that he had seen that look before, and it had never led to anything good !
Loki's mind was calculating every possibility, and most outcomes to the plan he was formulating in his mind seemed to come out with satisfactory conclusions. While the others looked upon the birth of Eysa as a beautiful miracle, and a memory to be cherished, Loki saw the child merely as another pawn in his next plan to be used much like a game piece in chess or hnefatal. The game that Loki wished to play, however, was revenge, and his opponents were the Gods. His allies, though they would be unwitting ones, would be Logi, and his family. The spark that would ignite this war game would be another innocent group. These unfortunate players, who would surely be caught in the middle, were the Midgardians.
Farbauti excused himself from Surtr's presence and worked his way over to where his son stood locked in deep thought. He could not help but notice that Loki was grinning as he stared down at the flaming child that was now being cradled by his parents in an ornate fire pit. When he reached his son he walked in front of him blocking his view of the ravine, and breaking his concentration.
" Is my son enjoying the miracle of a fire birth ? " Farbauti asked his son.
Loki could see the suspicion in his father's narrowed eyes, and he sensed the mistrust in the tone of his voice.
" Yes ! What a wonderful blessed event it has been father ! I wish Logi and Glöð all the best with their second child ! " he replied with a little too much enthusiasm.
Farbauti gave his son a look of disbelief.
" I hope that is all that you are wishing for Loki ! " he told his son sternly.
Loki placed his hands on his hips and grinned.
" Why,...., whatever do you mean father ? " he asked as innocently as a child.
Farbauti grabbed his son's arm and squeezed it tightly.
" What I " mean " Loki, is that we are still reeling from our failed effort in Asgard with those damned Dwarves, and we do not wish for any more trouble at this time ! " the Frost Giant replied, getting straight to the point.
Loki's smile disappeared as he gently removed his father's hand from his arm.
" I believe it was your decision to throw in with the Dwarves in that ill - fated venture father. " he told him, then paused for a moment.
Loki then placed his face almost up against his father's nose.
" And it was I who you asked for help,.... and it was I who paid the full price of the curse !! " he reminded his father angrily.
As Loki walked away Farbauti called after his son.
" Will I see you at the birth feast ? " he asked.
Loki did not bother to turn around as he replied.
" No ! No one will see me there ! " he replied with a grin.
The feast was held on top of a mountain where the trees and bushes had been burned to the ground by Logi's first child Eimyrja. This location was chosen because it had a small cave nearby which could act as a shelter for the newborn. Around the clearing each of the Fire Giants had placed their flaming swords to light the area. Those from Muspellheim feasted on sulfur and magnesium, while drinking copious amounts of oil and other flammable liquids. The Frost Giants, who had a slightly less volatile palate, ate frozen blubber, bear meat, and Jotun hare. They washed down their meal with mead and ale.
Just before the night ended, and morning began, Glöð went into the nearby cave, which was being used as a nursery, to bring out their newborn, and show her off to those gathered on the mountain top. When she left to get the child every Giant stood up and grabbed their stone goblet to toast the fire child. All waited with great anticipation to see Eysa up close and to personally welcome her into their world.
Some of the Jotuns began to cheer as Glöð emerged from the cave with the fire pit. When they saw the look of horror on her face, however, their joy turned to worried silence.
" My baby is gone ! Someone has taken my child !! " Glöð screamed as she fell to her knees.
Logi dropped his cup and ran over to his trembling wife. Although he had heard his wife clearly he looked into the empty fire pit anyway hoping to somehow see something that his wife had missed. He of course found nothing there.
Logi looked up from the fire pit and found his father and brothers in the crowd.
" Someone has stolen my child ! " he cried out in disbelief.
