Logi : The Ruler Of Fire
Little Eimyrja burst into ashen tears when she heard that her father had not been able to find her sister. Logi's distraught daughter ran to her mother and sought comfort in the warmth of her arms.
" Mother ! Will I ever see my sister again ? " she asked as her voice crackled in despair.
Glöð shot her husband an angry stare before responding to her daughter's question.
" Your father will find Eysa and bring her home, .... won't you my dear !? " she replied to Eimyrja, while at the same time asking her husband.
Logi's flame dimmed further as he wallowed in the shame of his own failure. Despite not knowing where else to look for his daughter, or if he would ever be able to bring her home again, he assured his wife that she would soon return safely. As Logi watched the pitiful sight of his daughter being consoled by her mother a cold north wind blew up around him.
As Kári materialized among a swirling funnel of leaves blown into the air by the vortex of his great strength, he looked over at Glöð, who was hugging Eimyrja close to her burning chest, and frowned.
" Do not be sorrowful sister - in - law, for I have found where Eysa is being held against her will ! " he told her.
Logi, Glöð, and even little Eimyrja instantly burned red hot with joy and anticipation as they waited to hear what Kári had to say next. The Wind Giant placed his hand on his brother's shoulder and smiled as he spoke.
" She is being held by a human at his great hall in MIdgard. " he explained.
Logi burned with anger as he stared deeply into his brother's eyes.
" What human !? And where in Midgard are her captors holding Eysa !? " Logi demanded to know.
" Your daughter is imprisoned in the land known as Norway, in a kingdom called Vestfold. The king, who has taken her, is King Bjarnlaugr. " Kári informed his very angry brother.
Logi's flames shot high into the Jotun sky as he could no longer contain his fury. It took several moments for the roar of his anger to diminish, but when it finally quieted down he turned to his wife and spoke to her with a new sense of determination.
" Glöð ! Let us pay this King Bjarnlaugr a visit, and make him sorry that he ever dared to dishonor the Jotun race ! " he exclaimed loudly.
Glöð's eyes burned white hot with rage at the thought of her precious daughter being held by those cold unfeeling humans.
" Yes ! These Midgardians must pay dearly for what they have done ! " she replied with equal fury.
To their surprise little Eimyrja rose up out of her mother's arms, and with the heat of her anger lifting her well off of the ground, she pointed a finger towards the blue planet.
" Can we burn everything to the ground father ? " she asked.
Glöð and Kári grinned at the innocence of the child. Logi, however, could not help but laugh bitterly as he replied to her question.
" Yes ! With flames of vengeance we will scorch everything in that world ! " he assured his daughter.
Kári nodded his approval.
" And I will fan the flames of your fury so that they will spread to every corner of Midgard ! " he added.
Loki, who was hidden under a cloak of invisibility, sat on a rock high above the Fire Giants and doubled over in laughter when he heard them speak of devastating the Earth with fire. He could not have been prouder of himself at that moment, for his plan was working to perfection !
King Bjarnlaugr and Queen Arndisa were entertaining Jarl Eirik, and his wife Jóra, when the doors to the great hall suddenly burst open. A man, whose face was familiar to the king, though he could not remember his name, stood frozen for a moment at the entrance with a look of sheer terror on his face. Then suddenly he shouted :
" Fire Giants !! "
He had barely gotten the last word out of his mouth before his entire body burst into flames. The guests in the hall sat paralyzed with fear as the man ran around the hall flailing his arms and yelling in a high pitched scream of agony. They could do little more than watch in horror as the flames sizzled and burned into his flesh. When the man inhaled to scream again the intense heat seared his lungs and mercifully ended his life.
King Bjarnlaugr and Jarl Eirik cautiously walked over to the smoldering man, as their wives huddled together at the table in a state of shock. The king was about to say something, as he stood above the charred remains, when without warning the doors imploded into the hall. A blast of searing heat entered the room like water bursting through a breached dam, scorching everything in its path.
Logi and Glöð ignored the tortured screams of the humans as they perished, and walked slowly over to the fire pit in the middle of the room.
" Eimyrja ! Take your sister back to Jotunheim, and keep her safe. Your mother and I, with uncle Kári's help, will stay here and lay waste to this green lush world. " he told his daughter with a wicked grin.
Logi's daughter quickly did what she was told, and headed back to Jotunheim. She had only been gone for a moment when the hall's roof collapsed in upon them and the fresh air fueled the flames to new heights.
As Logi looked up at the stars that shone occasionally through the billowing smoke he turned to Glöð and Kári.
" There is so much to burn,.... and so many to kill !! " he stated coldly as a matter of fact.
