The Rune Stone
" The Words Are The Magic ! "
Sif, on the other hand, admired Freyja for being a powerful woman who was unafraid to stand up to any male, no matter which of the nine worlds they came from. What she did not like about the Goddess, however, was her effect on men. The Vanir Goddess had the ability to turn even the wisest of males into a babbling idiot, and after she got her way with a wink, seductive smile, or by showing off her ample breasts, she had that male in her clutches forever.
When they reached the huge courtyard, which lay on either side of the golden path that led up to the front doors of Freyja's hall, both Thor and Sif could not help but compare it to Valhalla. To their left and right, as they walked, the Einherjar, or ' Lone Warriors ', were practicing their fighting skills, just as they did at Odin's great hall. And just as they did at Valhalla, the warriors stopped honing their skills for a moment as they passed, and bowed to the Gods.
Thor reached out to grab hold of the great gold knocker on the right door of the hall, but before he could grasp it the door opened by itself.
" It is no wonder she does not need guards ! To sneak up on such a witch would be impossible ! " Thor noted as they stepped inside.
Sif grabbed her husband's arm, and squeezed it hard.
" Do not call her a witch ! If you do she may not help us ! " she reminded him in a coarse whisper.
Thor gave his wife an angry look, but decided that discretion was better than valor when dealing with one's wife, and therefore remained silent.
As they walked to the right of the long table that began near the doors, and ended at the raised platform where Freyja's golden high - seat rested, Sif was the first to notice that Freyja was not seated upon her throne. Sif smacked her lips in frustration when she saw that the one known as the ' Queen of Seidr ' was combing her hair while admiring herself in a mirror that covered the entire back wall of the great hall.
" Vanity appears to be her only weakness ! " Sif told her husband sarcastically.
Thor reached out and squeezed his wife's arm gently.
" Now who is jeopardizing our chances of receiving her help ? " he replied with a little grin.
Before the Prince and Princess of Asgard had a chance to greet the Vanir Goddess, she turned around and spoke to her visitors.
" A magical incantation is what you need. " she told them as though they had asked a question.
" What ? " Thor and Sif asked simultaneously.
Freyja smiled when she noticed that Thor's eyes were transfixed upon her breasts. A sight not lost by Sif either, who gave her husband a shot in the ribs with her elbow. As Thor reacted to being admonished physically, Freyja answered their question.
" What you need to physically send a human to another world is a magical incantation attached to a primer chant. " she told them.
Thor and Sif looked at each other, and then slowly returned their gaze back to the Vanir Goddess. Sif, who was not affected by her beauty spoke first :
" Could you repeat that in Asgardian ! We are not well versed in Vanir magic ! " she shot back sarcastically.
" In order to send a human through the cosmos to other worlds you will need me to make up a powerful seidr incantation, which can be joined to an existing Midgardian charm. You see the words are the magic. " she explained.
Thor managed to avert his eyes just long enough to reply.
" Do you mean something like what the Midgardians call the ' Merseburg Charms ' ? " he asked.
Freyja smiled politely before answering.
" No, my handsome friend. Those were conjured up by the Gods, and are forever locked into this domain. What you need is a charm that was invented by the humans, and through their continuous use in Midgard, are now imbued with magic. " she told the Thunder God.
Sif did not like the flirtatious look on Freyja's face, and broke in with a question of her own.
" Do you know of one ? " she asked.
Freyja narrowed her eyes as she looked over at the golden haired Goddess. She was annoyed that the wife of Thor had broken her sexual spell that she was casting upon the God of Thunder.
" Yes ! Indeed I do ! " she answered tersely.
Then she added :
" Carved onto several Rune Stones, and during their burial rituals, they have been known to use the chant, " Pistil, Mistil, Kistil ! "
Thor, recovering from the affects of Freyja's magical beauty, thought for a moment.
" Thistle, Misteltoe, Casket ? " he asked.
" Casket or chest. It was used for many years by the Celts and the Norse, and over time it has begun to have magical properties. When spoken with the magical incantation that I will give you it will transport the human, or humans, to each of the nine worlds,... one at a time of course. " she informed them.
Sif looked perplexed.
" And how will we make a Midgardian say this incantation ? " she asked.
Sif grinned from ear to ear.
" Carve it into stone, and leave it where the human you choose will find it. One of those ' Atheist Archaeologists " will eventually read it,... and be changed forever ! " she told them.
Thor grimaced slightly as she explained. If she knew that they had called some Midgardians ' Atheist Archaeologists ' then surely she knew what he was thinking right now !
Freyja smiled seductively at Thor, which let him know that he would not only be leaving with the incantation, but also an angry wife who would not soon forgive him for the sexual feelings he had so obviously shown for another Goddess !
