The Valkyrie's Daughter
The Comfort Of Her Arms
The ship Eirik was sailing on had no wind to fill it's sails. Then slowly, and at first gently, the ship began to rock back and forth. Suddenly, and unexpectedly, a huge wave broke over the ship capsizing it, and throwing him overboard into the cold North Sea.....
Eirik awoke, and flailed his arms out in front of him as though he were desperately trying to keep his head above water. By the time he realized it was only a dream, and calmed down, he became aware of the being that stared down at him. The first thing that Eirik noticed was her pretty face, which was covered slightly on both sides by the most beautiful golden hair he had ever seen. As he looked up into her sky blue eyes Eirik could not help but smile. It was then that he noticed her pure white feathered wings.
" Are you an angel ? " he asked, still groggy from his sleep.
Hlaðguðr Svanhvít looked down at the human with all the happiness and joy of a mother looking into the eyes of her newborn.
" I am not an angel. " she told him. " I serve Odin as one of his Valkyries. "
Eirik's eyes almost bulged out of his head.
" Then I am in Valhalla ! " he exclaimed.
Once again the Valkyrie had to correct the human.
" No, my friend ! The living have no place in Valhalla. "
Uncertain of what was happening, Eirik frowned as he shook his head in disbelief.
" Where am I then ? " he asked in a state of utter confusion.
Svanhvit smiled at the human.
" You are where you have always been. " she explained to him.
Still not quite grasping what the Valkyrie was telling him he asked :
" Bjorgyn ? I am in Bjorgyn ?! "
Hlaðguðr Svanhvít placed her finger over the human's lips to quiet him.
" Yes ! And now you must rest some more. " she told him sternly.
Despite her finger pressing down gently upon his lips Eirik managed to ask one more question.
" What is your name Valkyrie ? " he inquired.
The Valkyrie narrowed her eyes slightly before replying.
" My name is Hlaðguðr Svanhvít,....... and now you must rest ! " she told him more forcefully.
Before she could wrap her arms around him again Eirik managed to tell her his name.
" I am Eirik Ospaksson. "
Eirik had not realized that the Valkyrie was naked until she wrapped her arms around him and held him close. At first he could not hide his feelings of attraction for the beautiful Valkyrie, but when she covered him with her feathered wings a calmness and tranquility fell upon him that made him quickly fall asleep.
How long Eirik slept he could not tell, but when he awoke both his body and his mind felt relaxed and reinvigorated. And with this new burst of energy he experienced something else as well. He felt the pangs of hunger rumbling in his stomach.
Muffled beneath her fluffy warm wings Hlaðguðr Svanhvít heard a voice call out to her. She could not quite make out what the one in her care was saying, so she gently pulled back her wings and asked what he needed.
" Do you require something ? " she inquired.
Eirik looked up into the Valkyrie's eyes and became lost in the blue orb that floated in an ocean of pure white. They were more than simply beautiful eyes, they were windows into her soul. And what he saw within them was a kindness and compassion, backed by a strong will, that he had seldom seen in anyone since he became a Birkebeiner.
Finally, after an unusually long moment, Eirik was able to recover from the vision of perfection that appeared in her eyes, and answer her question.
" I am very hungry. Do you have anything for me to eat ? " he asked almost shyly.
Svanhvit smiled at the Midgardian and nodded.
" I will catch something for you to eat right now ! " she told him.
Eirik watched as the shapely Valkyrie got up and walked over to the Lake's shore. As the water rose up to her ankles Svanhvit suddenly, and magically, transformed into a swan. He could not help but laugh when she wagged her little tail feathers at him as she swam away.
As Eirik dressed himself he watched the Swan - Valkyrie catch one fish after another and bring them to the shore for him. By the time she had reached six he had scaled and gutted three, and was cooking two of them over a small fire he had made.
When the swan finished fishing she emerged from the water and transformed back into her Valkyrie form. Eirik almost dropped the stick, that held the fish into the fire, when he saw just how beautiful her naked body was as she stood in the midday light. Not quit knowing what to do Eirik called her over to the fire and offered her a large trout. Hlaðguðr Svanhvít, however, grimaced as she shook her hands at the cooked fish.
" I do not eat fish that is cooked, thank you. While I fished in swan form for you I had my fill of plants and ate a fresh juicy living trout. " she explained to him.
After Eirik finished all of the fish he settled down with a wince on a log to relax. It was then that he noticed that Svanhvit was watching him more like a hawk than a swan.
" What ? " he asked the Valkyrie with a small boyish grin upon his face.
" Are you still in pain ? " she asked in return.
Eirik smiled at Svanhvit.
" It feels more like a pinch than a searing pain. " he explained.
Hlaðguðr Svanhvít walked over to Eirik and placed her hand over the wound on his side. Gently she pressed in until Eirik cried out in pain.
" You need one more day of healing. Get undressed and lie back down on your leaf bed. " she instructed him.
After the sharpness of the pain dissipated Eirik did as he was told and removed his clothes. As he lay down he tried to hide his lustful feelings from the beautiful and naked Valkyrie, but it was an impossible task. This time, before she covered him with her healing wings, however, she allowed Eirik to fulfill his desires. When he had finished he was so satisfied that he fell asleep before she could wrap her feathers around him. Svanhvit also wanted to sleep, but she was haunted by what she had just done. She tried to convince herself that she was only following Odin's commands, but in her heart she was not sure.
" Odin told me to see to his every need ! " she repeated over and over again in her mind.
