This coming Monday I will be holding my Ancestor ritual, and I have been e - mailed by several people as to why I chose that date to hold the Ancestral Rite.
First of all we should honor our ancestors every day with actions and deeds that show our great respect for them. Remember that we are their legacy, and a small piece of each one of them resides within all of us, and makes us who and what we are. A dishonorable act, no matter how small, reverberates all the way back to our earliest ancestor, and is a black mark against our ancestral line. Always honor those who gave us life with valiant deeds !
As far as why I chose July 15th as my date to honor my ancestors ? Well, unfortunately that is personal for me and I will not divulge that information. Each individual should hold their Ancestral Rite on a date that is special and unique to them. Some examples : 1. The birth date of your earliest known ancestor. 2. The marriage date of an ancestor. 3. A date that reflects an honorable act performed by an ancestor.
The main reason to choose a personal date for your Ancestral Rite is that it will add a deeper meaning to the ritual. It will also add a special " feeling " to the ritual, much the way the anniversary of a wedding, funeral, or a birthday gives special meaning to a day. Choose wisely when searching for a date to hold your Ancestral Ritual. It is important.
