As I was putting out the garbage,( at six o'clock A.M.), before going to work, my next door neighbor, who was also putting out her garbage, walked over to me and said she wanted to throw change into my brand new car as a gesture to bring good fortune to my new vehicle.
After the initial shock wore off I opened up the passenger front door for her and she threw in one quarter, one dime, one nickel, and one penny under the seat. With a look of bewilderment on my face, I closed the door after she moved back away from the car. She then started talking about how one of our neighbors had gone in to the hospital for bypass surgery and that she was coming home tommorrow. She spoke for a few minutes longer and then went inside as though this was all perfectly normal and routine.
After my brain caught up to what had just happened I realized it was just a nice gesture by an old woman. But it goes to show you that even devout Christians, she is Catholic, believe in magic or superstitions in one form or another. Though I am sure that if I asked I would be told that she did not believe in such nonsense. The act, however, speaks for itself.
And here I was worried that my neighbors would think I was a little weird for walking around my new car blessing it with a Thor's hammer. It just goes to show you that no matter how different we are, we are also very much alike. And if nothing else her act of kindness raised the value of my car !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
