I have been called a heretic for believing that the Eddas are sacred works in our religion. They mean as much to me as the Bible does to the Christians. Yes, they are tainted by Christianity, but they are all we have left and I have enough faith to believe that our Gods allowed these manuscripts to survive for us to read and get to know Them better.
I have been critcized for translating the Eddas into runic to better honor the Gods. I also have two prayer books and all my rites written in runic as well. I believe that Odin gave us, his children, the runes as a writing system than for magical purposes.
Magic I believe belongs only in the realm of the Gods. I do not believe that I myself can perform any kind of magic. I do believe that through the runes, or just by asking the Gods, we can have Them perform seid on our behalf.
As I stated in a previous article I do not believe that the Gods have a set standard for honoring them. As long as we show Them the love and respect that They deserve during a rite or blot I do not think They will be displeased with the way we honor Them.
And finally when I use the word love too many times when discussing the Gods it really seems to bother some people. But can we really overstate our love for them ?
If you disagree with anything above... good ! That means you have your own ideas and are independent. So call me what you will, independent or heretic, nothing will change the fact that I am what the Gods have made me. It is their will that has shaped my beliefs. And I hope that no one out there who is an Independent Asatruar will be coerced into changing their views or opinions. This is why we belong to An Independent Asatru !
Go with Odin' s wisdom, Freyja' s love and Thor' s protection !
