Child Of Destiny
" I have a message here for you from Mother Frigga. " Gna announced as she pulled the parchment out of her bodice. " Not even a greeting first Gna ? " Freyja asked with a raised eyebrow. " I am here on business old friend. I have to hurry back to Fensalir with your answer. " Gna told her in a professional tone as she handed Freyja the note. Freyja opened the message, and read it out loud : " I, All - Mother Frigga, require your presence at Fensalir, at your earliest convenience . " she whispered. As Freyja's beautiful fair complexion turned a pretty shade of red, Gna could no longer contain herself and began to giggle. Freyja gave her an angry look before crumpling the note, and throwing it to the floor. " Shall I tell Frigga that you will be coming shortly Freyja ? " Gna asked with a huge smile. " You are enjoying this very much aren't you my friend ! ? " Freyja shot back. " You can tell her that I will be there at my earliest convenience. " Freyja told her with a sly grin. Gna was still giggling a she mounted Hoof - Flourisher, then turned back to Freyja and said : " I promise I will come to visit you and your children soon, but for now I have errands to run ! " Gna grabbed hold of the reins, kicked her heels into Hoof - Flourisher, and slowly the great steed rose into the air. Gna waved to Freyja as she disappeared over the horizon.
As Freyja stepped off of her cat - drawn cart, in front of the golden doors that lead into Frigga's great hall Fensalir, she had to admit to herself that she was a little jealous of the great beauty of Frigga's wonderful abode. Most of the great hall was sheathed in pure gold, which shone like the sun as it reflected light. What set Frigga's hall apart from other halls was the beautiful trim of silver that complimented the golden interior perfectly. From outside the solid golden doors Freyja could hear the giggling of happy children inside. Frigga's hall was always a happy place to visit.
Freyja did not have to knock at the door. She was expected, and the doors opened as she stood before them. Frigga sat on her high - seat, at the other end of the hall, watching joyfully at the children playing beneath her. She looked up when she heard the giant doors opening, and smiled pleasantly at Freyja as she approached. Freyja nodded back out of respect for the All - Mother in return. Freyja spoke first : " Am I a dog to be summoned at your every whim, All - Mother ? Freyja asked with a smirk on her face. Frigga frowned as she answered : " I asked you to come here today because I have something of the utmost importance to discuss with you Freyja. And I assure you that I appreciate very much you coming so quickly. " Freyja was always amazed at how Frigga could make any inconvenience seem like a privilege for the inconvenienced. As Freyja waited for the reason she was summoned her anger faded, and she calmed herself enough to sit next to the All - Mother.
Frigga began slowly by telling her that it was Odin himself who had asked for her help. She then went on to explain the entire situation to her. " There is a prince in Hedemark, named Thorvald, who Odin wishes to marry to Astrid, the princess of Romerike. Odin says it is very important that these two Midgardians are united in marriage".... Frigga stood up, and with an angry stare asked Mother Frigga : " Why are Asgardians delving into matters of the heart ! Love, passion, and the union of two lovers has always been the business of the Vanir, and falls into my domain All - Mother, does it not ?! " Frigga smiled pleasantly, and calmly replied : " I am not so much interested in the couple, as I am in the child of their union my dear. My duty is to the child of that union, but I need you, dear Freyja, to use your magic to set their love in motion. I believe that that is in your domain, Goddess of love and fertility. " Freyja was once again disarmed by Mother Frigga's calm, gentle speech, and subtle charm. The Queen of Seidr sat back down, and in a more respectful tone asked : " How may I assist you All - Mother ? "
Frigga then told Freyja that the child was of the utmost importance to the lands known to the Gods as the Northway . It was this child, who was not yet conceived, who would one day unite all of the Northway into a single kingdom, that would hopefully be strong enough to turn back the Midgardians, known as Christians, who were slowly expanding north into the frozen lands. Frigga went on to say that the Norns had placed many obstacles in the path of this couple, and that only with the God's assistance could these impediments be overcome. Frigga finished by explaining that Odin had shown her that there was not much time, and that they had to hurry before the opportunity passed them by forever. After hearing all that Frigga had to say, Freyja agreed to help and was escorted to Hlidskjalf, where Odin was already keeping a sharp eye on the events that were unfolding down on Midgard.
