Part 4 : Blood Brothers
Odin reached down and pulled Loki' s sword out of the dead Jotun's chest. He wiped the blood off on the Jotun's shirt, then placed his hand over the blade, and slowly ran the sharp steel over his palm. Odin cut his hand just deep enough to draw blood, and then held his bloody hand out to Loki. " You saved my life, Jotun named Loki. I offer you my friendship, and it is my wish for us to become blood brothers. " Odin said proudly. Loki nodded his approval, and ran his hand over his own sword drawing out his own blood into his palm. Loki reached out, and grasped Odin's hand in a firm grip. " I am greatly honored and gladly accept you as my blood brother great Odin ! " Loki stated happily. Odin nodded, and patted him on the shoulder. " What are your plans my brother ? " Odin asked. Loki chuckled : " I am like a leaf that blows in the wind, my friend. I let circumstances dictate where I will go, and what I will do. " He replied. " If you have no plans, brother Loki, then come back to Asgard with me as my honored guest ! " Odin told him. The trickster's eyes widened ! " I would be greatly honored to stay a while with you in your golden realm my new blood brother ! " Loki shouted not even trying to hide his joy. " Then let us go Loki ." Odin said with a laugh.
As they walked into Midgard, and came upon the secret place which was the entrance to the Rainbow Bridge, known as Bifrost, Loki looked up at the great beauty of the bridge between the world of Midgard, and the God's world. Loki had to shield his eyes from the glare of the bright colors that seemed to actually burn as flames on the surface of the bridge. As Loki took his first step upon the God's bridge he thought to himself that maybe, just maybe, his luck was changing, and that literally a whole new world was opening up to him. Loki took a deep breath as he began his journey across Bifrost, and repeated to himself over and over again : " This is too important ! I must remain on my best behavior from this day forward. As the blood brother of the Lord of Asgard I must behave myself, and honor the Gods with respect. And if I do this I too will be respected as a God. " In the back of his mind, however, Loki knew that in the short term this was something that he could achieve, but in the long term he feared that he might not be able to resist all of the temptations in a place like Asgard.
Odin listened carefully to every word that Loki spoke as they traveled back to Asgard. Odin liked Loki, and felt that he could be a good ally to himself, and to all of his fellow Asgardians. Odin was no fool either ! He could sense from Loki's words that he was a troubled soul who was as adept at getting himself into trouble, as he was at getting out of it. Odin felt that what Loki needed was a calming influence, and he was already formulating a plan in his head to make Loki a more useful, and benign addition to the Gods of Asgard.
As they approached the outskirts of the Golden Realm, Loki was puzzled by what he saw. " Brother, why is there no gate, or walls, to protect such a beautiful realm as this ? " Loki asked. " Surely you must realize that Asgard is a temptation for any, and all, who know of its existence ! " Loki added. " We have a master builder in mind to erect for us a massive wall to surround Asgard, but his price seems much too steep to pay. " Odin replied. " Perhaps you will join us in the negotiations Loki ? " Odin asked. " I would be greatly honored to be of assistance Odin. I have been known to wheel and deal a little my brother ! " Loki replied with a sly smile. " I thought as much ! " Odin said with a laugh.
That night Odin held a great feast in honor of his new blood brother . Loki tried not to smile too much as he met Frigga, Tyr, Heimdall, and Thor, but it was hard for him to hide his great joy. Offered an honored seat next to Frigga, and across from Odin himself, Loki was served by beautiful Valkyries the most delicious food he had ever feasted on, and some of the best ale he had ever tasted. Nonchalantly Odin gave Frigga a little nod, and Frigga smiled at Loki, and mentioned that there was someone that he really should meet. Frigga motioned to a beautiful young Goddess, who stood quietly at the end of the hall. The woman was the very essence of beauty itself. Her haired flowed off her alabaster shoulders like water cascading over a falls. Loki marveled at how her beautiful face seemed to literally outshine everything that surrounded her. Loki was smitten at once ! Then Odin did something he almost never did. He gave up his seat to the fair Goddess so she could sit across from his blood brother. As she bowed her head in respect to Loki, she introduced herself : " Hello, good sir, my name is Sigyn. " Loki literally forgot his name for a moment as he answered : " And I am ...... I am ..... very glad to meet you maiden Sigyn. " Loki stuttered. Odin glanced at Frigga and smiled. " Let us leave these two alone to become acquainted." Odin said wisely.
