Late last year I started what I call the "Deity of the Day Ritual", in which I honor a different God or Goddess each day of the month. The Grandchildren, and lesser known,( to me), Gods and Goddesses are doubled up, (obviously there are not 50 days in the month), and I hold a double ritual on those days. February is for me the toughest month with up to three less days, but I still squeeze them all in. For me this is the fairest and most respectful way to honor all the Norse deities, and not feel guilty about missing a God or Goddess. Do the Gods and Goddesses really care if we honor them or not ? Yeah, I feel that since Odin, Hoenir and Lodurr, breathed life into us they also gave us some of Their characteristics. And whom among us isn't hurt when we receive no thanks for a deed , or someone forgets our birthday. Yes, I sense that the Gods and Goddesses have feelings too !
The actual ritual I keep short, honoring each of the Gods and Goddesses for their attributes and what they do for me, and mean to me, personally. Even though this is a short rite I still bathe beforehand, to cleanse my soul as well as my body. To not do so , in my eyes, is to dishonor our Gods and Goddesses. I also re - consecrate the altar and surrounding area with a hammer before beginning. I do not believe that any area stays consecrated for longer than the ritual takes. I use the same formal format for these shorter rituals as I do for the regular rituals, I just readers - digest them down a little to make them more appropriate for the occasion. Once again I will never tell you what to say. How can you honor our Gods and Goddesses if you use someone elses words?! Let your praise come from your heart !
Overall I find this to be the most inclusive way to honor all the Gods and Goddesses. Of course another way to honor the Gods and Goddesses daily, is to live a good and proper life. Follow the nine noble virtues and the six fold goals and you will honor our great Gods and Goddesses every day of the year !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
