This ritual and feast, as the name denotes, is to celebrate the wild hunt, and personal success. This feast should have a great variety of meats integrated into the dishes. If wild game is available such as; deer, duck, geese, pheasant, rabbit etc..., all the better to honor the great Gods and Goddesses of the wild hunt. This also should be done to honor our ancestors, who unlike us today, hunted for survival and not for sport. Mead, ale and wine should be readily available for consumption as well. I put out one extra plate for Ullr and one for Skadi as well.
The main objective of the rite, which of course is conducted before the feast, is to seek blessings for any weapons that will be used for hunting. If the Gods and Goddesses so choose these weapons will make for a more sucessful hunt in the coming year. I do not hunt, but I do use this opportunity to ask the Gods and Goddesses to bless my swords, my dirk, and my seax. On the altar itself all weapons should be laid out along with a bow to represent the two great archer deities. I hold the bow up when speaking to the archers and have a beautiful picture of a deer perched on the altar to represent the wild game. I also ask the great hunter deities to help those who are suffering at this time and do not have enough to eat. For in this modern world no one should have to go hungry ! I also ask the Gods and Goddesses to bless these wild animals and let them thrive so that future generations can hunt them. As usual I will not tell you what to say or how to say it. The Gods and Goddesses want to here your words of love for them. Not something you read in a book or online ! Say it from your heart and they will be truly honored !
This is another of the rituals and feasts that I very much enjoy. Honoring the Gods and Goddesses and eating good food and drinking mead or wine is a great way to satisfy both my love for the Gods and Goddesses and to enjoy the great bounty that Mother Earth provides for us !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
