She has become my concious as well as my friend, showing me what is right and what is wrong. The regret that I feel in my heart when I make a bad decision is her glaring stare of disappointment. The joy I feel is her smile of approval. Her anger is not that of a wild woman whose rage is out of control, but that of a calm temperament that demands and equal and opposite reaction for each transgression.
I do not know her the way that Loki describes her in Lokasenna: " Be quiet Freyja ! You are not faultless. I have plain proof ! All of the elves and Aesir here have had you for a whore." Compared to the other Gods and Goddesses her response to this was rather calm and measured. " Your lying tongue will turn back on you the evil charms it chants. The Gods are angry, the Goddesses too, you will go home gloomy.
This is how I see Freyja, as a calm restrained Goddess. She may be the Queen of the Valkyries, and keeper of half the dead warriors, but she is also the wife of Od, and mother to two beautiful children, Hnoss and Gersemi. Like modern women, she is burdened by the many roles and arduous duties she performs. I see her as a lonely Goddess, always out searching for her husband, who seems to be forever traveling. In her anguish she cries tears of red - gold.
To me her, "magic", is her ability to use her compassionate heart of gold to melt, and soften, even the coldest and hardest of hearts; to wash away years of pain and suffering with her cleansing tears; and to clear a mind filled with anger and mistrust. Her abilities are truly amazing and I cannot thank her enough for the joy she has given to my heavy heart. And all I had to do to gain all these treasures was open up my heart to her. Freyja, lovely Freyja, took care of the rest !
In your light I learn how to love,
In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest,
where no one sees you,
but sometimes I do,
and that sight becomes this art.
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
