The great fortress is called Valaskjalf, it is great Odin's .
To gain access the Gods must enter through a mighty door,
Here, everyday, All - Father's search for knowledge begins.
From an ornate seat, which was carved with great care,
Odin's mind sees all nine worlds with only a glance,
And everything before the All - Knowing is laid bare,
Nothing can evade Odin once he has entered his trance.
Loki, the trickster, tried to hide from All - Father's watchful eye,
Hiding on a mountain, for his part in killing Frigga' s fair son.
From his high - seat Great Odin saw where Loki did lie,
Cowering in cold waters, Loki changed himself into a salmon.
There is a price to pay for those who sit in the chair,
Njord's son Freyr sat and gazed down upon Jotunheim.
He saw a beautiful Jotun maiden, so shining and fair,
Despair, heartache, and depression, were his for a time.
This great window to the nine worlds has a name,
It is called Hlidskjalf, a holy seat in Odin's abode.
Only Gods and Goddesses dare sit upon its frame,
And gaze upon the worlds to see what will unfold.
