Idunn' s Revenge
Idunn The Seductress
Freyja spent the entire evening working on Idunn' s appearance. First she took down Idunn's hair and teased it until it was full and had a wild look. The Vanir Goddess then used a special powder that made Idunn's skin radiate, and a paste on her lips that made them look as red as glowing embers in a fire. To accentuate the new look of the young Goddess, Freyja dressed Idunn in her most seductive gown. Made from a very sheer material, the dress showed off every curve and detail of the body of the young Goddess. The final touch was a pair of clear glass shoes that showed off Idunn's pretty little feet. Freyja knew that this was important because Jotuns had a fascination with pretty feet. A lesson she learned from the stories her mother Skadhi, a Jotun, told her about how she chose her husband . When Freyja was satisfied with her results she told Idunn to close her eyes. Then Freyja carefully guided her over to her mirror, and told her to open them.
Idunn' s first reaction was to cover her breasts with her arm, and place her other hand in between her legs. Freyja laughed hysterically when she saw Idunn blushing, and shocked over her appearance. When she regained her composure Freyja stroked Idunn's hair as she asked : " How did you think you were going to get the attention of a Jotun ? Did you think you could simply blow him a kiss ? " Idunn did not answer right away, but instead slowly moved her arms down to her side, and gazed upon her body as it was reflected in the mirror. Slowly she took one of her hands and ran it down the contour of her body gently following every curve. Idunn looked over at Freyja and smiled. " Am I really that beautiful !? " she asked as she looked back at her reflection. " You are quite lovely, and very alluring my dear ! Not as beautiful as me of course, but still very pretty. " Freyja told her with a touch of jealousy in her voice. " Will I really be able to make a Jotun fall in love with me ! " Idunn asked. " I assure you my dear he will want to do a lot more than just fall in love with you ! " Freyja told her with a little smile. " Oh my ! " Idunn said shyly as she looked down at the floor to hide her blush.
Idunn stood admiring herself in the mirror for a while before something dawned on her. " Freyja ! How will I walk up into the Jotun mountains dressed like this ? ! " the Elf Goddess asked frantically. " Calm yourself my dear ! You must look as pretty when you meet the Jotun as you do right now, so I will let my cats take you on your journey to Jotunheim. " Freyja explained to her with a smile. " Would you ?! " Idunn asked. " Of course my dear. " Freya replied. " Then I want to leave at first light tomorrow for the land of the Giants ! " Idunn exclaimed.
The next morning Idunn was too nervous to eat breakfast. As she stood before Freyja' s great mirror putting on the finishing touches to her new look, the Vanir Goddess came up behind her, and placed her hands on Idunn's shoulders. " He will not be able to resist you my dear ! " Freyja told her. " I am beautiful, aren' t I ? " Idunn asked. " Well not quite as magnificent as myself, but very beautiful in your own way my dear. " Freyja replied with a little laugh. Freyja then turned Idunn around and pulled out a flask of clear liquid. She slowly sprinkled the contents all over Idunn, who gave her a puzzled look. " This my dear is the final touch! No male, not even the ugliest Jotun, will be able to resist you while you are wearing my magical perfume. " Freyja told her. " But I don' t smell anything . " Idunn replied. " Only males can smell the scent, my dear ! " Freyja shot back. " Thank you for everything ! " Idunn suddenly blurted out as she hugged Freyja. " You are very welcome my dear ! " the Vanir Goddess whispered in her ear .
Freyja's golden cart was waiting for Idunn just outside the steps of the great hall. " Be careful Idunn ! Jotun's can be very unpredictable my dear ! " Freyja told her as she helped the Elf Goddess onto her cart. " I promise you that I will ! " Idunn answered. " Would you like me to come along and help you my dear ? " Freyja asked, already knowing the answer. " No. I took an oath to avenge my brother before my ancestors. Ingalf' s revenge has to be mine, and mine alone. " Idunn quickly replied. " How do I control the cart to keep it safely on the path to Jotunheim ? " Idunn asked. Freyja laughed ! " Grab hold of the reins and think of where you want to go, and my cats will take you there my dear. " Freyja told her as she handed Idunn the reins. " By the way Idunn my cats do not follow a path ! " the Vanir Goddess said with a giggle. As Idunn grabbed hold of the reins the cats pulled the cart into the air. " Oh my ! " Idunn squealed . " Don' t worry little one ! My cats will get you safely to your destination ! " Freyja shouted as her cart disappeared into the distance.
It took a while, but eventually Idunn became comfortable riding in the golden cart. She was amazed that the cats could fly through the air with such ease. " It is almost as though they are running on an invisible road ! " Idunn thought to herself. The view from the great height that they were traveling at was breathtaking ! As they left Asgard Idunn could see the golden spires on top of the great golden halls of the Gods gleaming behind her . They made for a beautiful image against the blue sky, and the green grass of Asgard. In front of her she saw the majestic snow covered high peaks of Jotunheim with a line of evergreens skirting the bottom half of the mountains, just past the border with Midgard. It was all so beautiful that she forgot for a moment why she was gliding through the heavens on the way to Jotunheim. Then she saw a vision of Ingalf' s sword in her mind's eye that woke her out of her dream state ! ' Avenge me sister ' ran through her mind over and over again hardening her heart !
When Idunn left Sessrumnir she was very nervous, but as the white capped mountains began to loom closer and closer, her fears gave way to her anger, and her sense of duty to her brother' s last wishes. As the cats slowly turned and headed for the plateau where Skadhi' s wolf had found her brother's body, she felt something building within her that she had never felt before. She had often wondered how anyone could hate, but as this hot emotion burned in the pit of her stomach, she realized that much like a Midgardian coin, emotions could have two sides. Idunn did not push this new emotion away, or even try to suppress it in any way. No ! The little Elf Goddess embraced hatred like an old friend that she had not seen in years !
