King Blot - Sweyn :
The Last Royal Sacrificer
A Thousand Years To Wait
As the sun rose in the sky once again lighting the skies of Sweden, the axe fell upon the last royal sacrificer in Sweden. King Inge had Sweyn' s head cut off and placed on a spear. He then lead his men forward on foot against the Heathens carrying their former king's head as a war trophy, and as a warning to all those who would still oppose him.
Without anyone to lead them many of the Heathens fled. Those who remained behind fought bravely despite being heavily outnumbered, but their's was a lost cause. Those Heathens who were not killed in battle were executed shortly after their capture. King Inge and his warriors then broke into the Heathen temple and destroyed everything inside including the statues of Thor, Odin, and Freyr.
When Halsten asked permission to burn the temple to the ground, however, King Inge, much like his father, refused to allow it.
" If we board up the old temple it is of no use to these Heathens, but if we burn the temple it becomes a sacred place to rally around much the way Donar' s Oak, and the Irminsul Pillar became after they were destroyed. " he told his second in command.
" No ! For now we will let it stand. When the Heathens are wiped out, or converted, we will tear it down and build a Christian church over its remains. " Inge added.
The messenger reached Steinkell and Eirik just as the sun rose to its highest point in the sky. Steinkell, and his small army were still some 50 miles from Uppsala when they were given the sad news of Blot - Sweyn' s murder. Steinkell, in a state of fury, wanted to march immediately to Uppsala and make the Christians pay for what they had done. Eirik, now the King of the Heathens, but without a kingdom, was much wiser than his years.
" By the time we arrive at Uppsala our leaderless army will have either surrendered or been destroyed ! " he told Steinkell.
Steinkell looked at Eirik, and shook his head in disbelief.
" Then shall we do nothing !? " he asked in an exasperated tone.
Eirik smiled at Steinkell.
We will head back to Northern Uppland where the Christians have no authority, and we will make a home next to the Gastrikland border. And there.... there Steinkell we will keep alive the ancient customs and beliefs of our ancestors. And I, as King of our Heathen folk, will personally perform the annual Disablot, until we, as the last bastion of Heathens left alive, are wiped off of the face of Midgard ! " Eirik shouted proudly in the direction of Uppsala.
The messenger looked at Eirik and saw in him much of his father. Then he remembered Olof telling him King - Blot Sweyn' s last words :
" ..... If it takes a hundred years, or a thousand, the Old Gods shall rise again, and we Heathens will once again freely honor the Gods of our ancestors through ritual and sacrifice ! "
