That is why when I find someone who lives by their deeds, and is Tru to others, through her faith in the old Gods, it is so very refreshing. Larisa C. Hunter, also known by her Heathen name Mist, is a breath of fresh air in a religion that seems to have more than its fair share of naysayers. She is a Heathen who holds Tru to her faith, and in her individual beliefs, but she is also somewhat unique in our religion in that she respects differing opinions without judgement or criticism. A rare feat for many Asatruar. She is an individual who gives of her time, her efforts, and of her heart, to all those who seek knowledge, friendship, and in many cases those who need a helping hand.
Larisa is a Godswoman,( Godia ), writer, poet, author, publisher, school teacher, and runs an embroidery business. And of course all of those wonderful " deeds " have to be worked around a life that includes being a wife and a mother. Oh, and I almost forgot, before she moved to the U.S., from Canada, she ran a kindred called the Kenaz Kindred as well.
As a writer, and author, she has produced two wonderful books. ' Fulltrui : Patrons in Asatru' was her first endeavor, while recently she published her second book ' Embracing Heathenry '. Both books are well worth the read ! When Larisa saw that the quality of her first publisher was lacking she, instead of complaining, started her own publishing house called Saga Press, and reissued her second book. She added to its content, and edited the book much better than her previous publisher did. Larisa does not think just of herself, however, she now uses Saga Press to help other Heathens publish their work, and works closely with CreateSpace and Amazon to make this a reality . Larisa is currently looking for Heathens who have poetry, short stories, or other Heathen writings which they would like to have published. She can be contacted on Facebook at Saga Press, or at : http://www.kenaz.ca . Deeds my friends ! It is all about deeds !
Larisa also runs through Kenaz Kindred a student program, and a Godsperson program. For what I see as a very reasonable fee she provides books and on - line services to teach students about our religion. I have many times seen, or heard of, her helping those who come to her teaching programs by reducing costs even further to help those who wish to learn afford their lessons. I personally do not like giving money as donations or charity, ( I strongly believe that the Gods want us to make our own way in the world ), but seeing her time and time again giving of herself, I started a scholarship for one student each year called the Ravensheart Scholarship. That is what Larisa does to those around her. She makes you want to do more because she gives so much of herself to others. Deeds my friends ! Deeds !
Larisa also runs an embroidery on - line " shop " called Frigga' s Loom where she hand makes, and sells very beautiful cloths. These intricately embroidered cloths are wonderful to display almost anywhere, and she does take custom orders. I have two of her embroidered cloths which I use as altar cloths.( One for Freyja and one for Frigga ) She is fair, and in my opinion, almost too generous sometimes with her pricing on these wonderful pieces of art. These embroidered cloths can be seen / purchased through the Kenaz Kindred : http://www.kenaz.ca
With all the services she provides for our Heathen community to me the most important thing she does is to be herself. She is a modern Heathen who honors the past, but is intelligent enough to always be looking towards the future. She is that rare individual who holds out a helping hand to others without looking for " celebrity status" ,or much in return. Everything Larisa does, she does for our Heathen community, for our Gods, our ancestors, and all of our folk. But most of all she does it because she is dedicated to our religion, and feels it is the right thing to do. I am proud to know her, and very honored to be her friend and blood brother. As an independent Asatruar I associate with very few people in our religion, but Larisa is the kind of Heathen we ALL need to be associated with !
Deeds my friends deeds !
