333. A Valkyrie's Heart
To her winged horse she quickly ran with the rest of her kind,
The steed galloped only twice before her mount took to flight,
Through the blue skies the Valkyrie flew, such a glorious sight.
On to the hallowed ground of the battlefield Hrist swiftly sped,
To bring back to Valfather, and Freyja, the honored warrior dead,
Hrist landed her steed gently upon the blood soaked killing field,
In one hand a shining sword, the other held a beautiful golden shield.
Her great strength and fighting skills made this Valkyrie very bold,
The constant stench of death, however, made her spirit grow cold,
Hrist was consoled by her great honor, but she held an empty heart,
The maiden's oath to Odin, and her hope for love, were tearing her apart.
Then one day Hrist lost her heart to the human Egil, a Midgardian king,
For the first time she was happy, Egil had already given her an oath ring,
Odin was not impressed, He would not let the Valkyrie break His decree,
Valfather refused to clip her wings, told her He would never set her free.
Frigga learned the lover's future from the Norns, as she watched from above,
All - Mother then told Odin, convinced the Lord of Asgard to allow their love,
When Odin took away her sword, shield, and wings, the Valkyrie did not resist,
Valfather, in disguise, was in attendance at the wedding of King Egil and Hrist.
