386. The Hörgr ( Stone Altar )
Slowly I begin my ascent, I have to be careful not to fall or stumble,
To reach the very top of the mountain is a climb most hard and steep,
Every step a testament to my faith, my sweat an offering most humble,
At the summit no rest, I build a hörgr of small stones placed in a heap.
In Midgard's ancient earth I draw a deep circle around my stone altar,
I am mindful not to cross outside the now suitably dedicated space,
I take a moment to collect my thoughts, this is not the time to falter,
From around my neck I take Thor's hammer and consecrate the place.
I wait until Mani takes its rightful location among the stars in the night,
Then pour out a generous libation for the Mighty Gods into my horn,
All around the circle, and on the sacred hörgr, many candles do I light,
And make solemn oaths to the Gods, add to past pledges I have sworn.
I praise our many Gods, honor our ancestors till Sunna's first morning rays,
Remember proudly our martyrs, raise my horn to toast each and every one,
I look back proudly on our heritage, look forward to many honorable days,
Then one by one blow out the candles, and thank the Gods when I'm done !
