414. An Untruthful World
Assassins hide in the dark shadows, the spies watch us in plain sight,
Accusations come from everywhere, like a gun they're held to our head,
We are forced to monitor social media, we live in fear of what is being said.
Honesty is said to be the best policy, at least that is what some still teach,
Yet the truth seems so far away, almost completely out of our reach,
We keep trying to read between the lines for something we have missed,
For it is very hard to keep our rationality, when we keep a clenched fist.
Words cut like slashing knives, the lacerations penetrate quite deep,
Lies poison the wounds they've made, like an infection they will seep,
When these toxic falsehoods reach our minds, clear thinking will be lost,
We must then be left to face our deepest fears, and also pay the cost.
With every untruth we fabricate the real world disappears a little more,
And those we injure along the way will surely want to settle the score,
With every lie we tell, our flag of truth, becomes blacker each time it is unfurled,
And the lack of honor of it's people hangs like a cloak of death upon the world.
