A Cut So Deep
That the pain slowly into your soul will seep.
The memory becomes like an unpaid debt,
An ache from the past, an unresolved regret.
It may come in the form of a hurtful word,
Said to your face, or something overheard.
Sometimes its a friend who is being unkind,
Or a stranger who is to your feelings blind.
Recalling bad memories can make you shed a tear,
And occasionally these feelings can bring forth fear.
We try to hide these emotions deep inside our heart,
Even though it feels as though it is ripping us apart.
Over time these hurtful feelings fade into our past,
But the deepest of them may for many years last.
It is how we deal with these years of guilt and pain,
That keeps us well grounded, happy, and sane.
