258. Generous Gríðr
She is the Giantess who bore Odin the gift of an avenging son.
For the Mighty Gods of Asgard it was a very timely present,
To gain such a powerful member, as brave Víðarr the Silent.
Gríðr is her Jotun name, and she was kind to Thor at great length,
She was glad to lend Hlrorridi her belt that multiplied his strength.
Gríðr showed the God of Thunder great respect, devotion, and love,
When she loaned Midgard' s great protector her special iron glove.
Gríðr looked at Mighty Thor with a smile, and then with a little laugh,
Proudly handed to Odin' s son, Gríðarvölr, her mighty magical staff.
Then Gríðr went against her own race, and showed herself defiant,
The Giantess warned Thor about Geirrodr, that wise and evil Giant.
Gríðr is a Giantess, who despite her name*, does not believe in greed,
She generously looks out for others, and gives them what they need.
Gríðr unselfishly helped the Mighty Thor, during a time of great strife,
Her staff Gríðarvölr, that she lent him, wound up saving Thor' s life !
