264. Innocence Lost
Born to the destitute, a tiny guiltless life.
A child to love, cherish, and forever adore,
Brought into a cold world of poverty and war.
The newborn's soul is as clean as a glistening slate,
One which has not been tainted by the lessons of hate.
The infant has arrived without a single wicked thought,
Anger, prejudice, and malice are things we are taught.
Over the years as the child learns, and slowly grows,
He will be taught to despise, until it is all that he knows.
Ideas of hatred drilled into him until he has no free will,
Then he will pick up a weapon, and go out and kill.
