121. King Sweyn' s Conquest
Mighty Danish Viking warriors battle ready for war.
Town by town King Sweyn forced the English to submit,
In defeat Hostages were given from each Squire it is writ.
King Aethelred and Thorkell, who was known as the Tall,
Stood firm against the Danes behind London's high wall.
Sweyn shifted west, and conquered the western thane,
It was then that the Londoners resolve began to wane.
They couldn't defeat him in battle, or match him in skill,
So all of the Britains submitted to great King Sweyn's will,
In 1013, on Christmas Day, Sweyn was crowned England's king,
By Sweyn's side, stood Cnut his son, wearing a princes ring.
King Sweyn Forkbeard did not rule over England for long,
Within just 5 weeks he succumbed to death's cruel song.
Harald II was next in line to succeed his father when he was dead,
The Viking army in England, however, chose Prince Cnut instead.
