Lurking beneath the surface of the ocean' s blue waters,
Lie in wait The Goddess Ran and nine of her daughters.
She drags Viking ships down into the depths of the sea,
Her daughters scatter the pieces on the shore as debris.
Sailors struggling to stay afloat in the vastness of the ocean,
Swear their lives to Ran as an oath of their love and devotion.
Up from the depths the Sea Goddess emerges with her net,
She makes the sailors pay with their lives to settle the debt.
If you sail across the great seas so vast and so wide,
Give a blood offering to Ran and swallow your pride.
Ask the Sea Goddess for passage to get home to your wife,
Or you will wind up on the bottom with the loss of your life.
