213. Sands Of Time
Each grain of sand representing a single moment in time.
In the top glass we are given millions of untold possibilities,
Lost forever in the bottom lay all the missed opportunities.
The young feel the great comforting weight of what can still be,
They do not see the time as it slowly, and irreversibly, slips away.
The aged try to plug the gap between the past and the future,
Try desperately, but in vain, to slow the sand's never ending flow.
When nearly all the grains have passed, and life is almost at an end,
We are left to contemplate only the loneliness of life's last instant,
And hope there are enough good deeds in the bottom of the glass,
For the Gods to carefully sift through to judge us in a favorable light.
