Raven, Great Raven, much blacker than night,
Soaring through the skies, looking for a fight.
The Raven flew around Odin, but he paid him no mind,
For He already had chosen two of your kind.
Feeling so lonely and not wanted in His hall,
The Raven decided to Odin he would never crawl.
Black Raven left the Golden realm to look for a master,
Seeking its true purpose he flew ever faster.
Then the Raven saw a giantess drawing water from a spring,
It turned and flew down to her on fast feathered wings.
With grace it landed on the shoulder of the Norn,
Only to receive the angry wrath of her scorn.
Verdandi brushed the black bird into the Well Of Urd,
As two swans looked on at the drowning dark bird.
When it looked as if the bird had gone totally under,
There was a great splash that sounded like thunder.
The Raven was bigger, and stronger, it took off in flight,
The clear pure water had turned the Raven all white.
The water was sacred, the Raven was paid his due,
So he flew back to Odin to show who was who !
Raven, Great Raven, so beautifully white and so pure,
Odin can only admire you when overhead you soar.
You taunt Him, and show Him, what he now cannot own,
The skies over Asgard have become your high throne !
