331. The Old Vellum Books
The ink that took the scribes many days to make is now fading with the years,
Over a millennium these sacred manuscripts have lost some of their pages,
And when we think of all the knowledge we have lost it brings our folk to tears.
The tales that have survived tell us of our Gods and heroes in all of their glory,
They take us to nine new worlds to us unknown, and allow us there to explore,
Through ancient metered skaldic poetry they enthrall us with each exciting story,
Amaze us with the journeys of the Gods, heroes, martyrs, and so very many more.
These eddas tell us that the entire universe was surely not made in just one day,
That in the nothingness of what was once Ginnungagap it all began to form,
We learn that in the droplets of melting ice, life, as always, was able to find a way,
There between the cold of Niflheim, and Muspellheim which was of course warm.
It is here we gain knowledge of Odin' s wisdom, and take pride in Thor's brave acts,
Become showered with Frigga' s love, and fall for the Goddess Freyja's beauty,
These pages fill us with great fear as we read of the Jotun' s constant attacks,
And admire Heimdall, the great stoic guardian of Asgard who is always on duty.
Carefully we search for knowledge among the sacred, and very fragile pages,
Written many years ago by learned men, who cared more for history than wages,
A wise man has many of these ancient books stacked high among his shelves,
For within these hallowed pages are the words that tell us so much about ourselves.
