241. The Village Elder
Shared with his folk many joys, and yes a few tears.
Though his body had grown weak, his mind could remember,
His clear thinking made him, in the village, a valuable member.
He was the patriarch of the village, known as the wise one,
His status among his people, was over the years hard - won.
Einar was his given name, but most knew him as Greybeard,
The older villagers bowed to him, his decisions were cheered.
The village chief seldom made a choice without the elder's advice,
His counsel was always extremely perceptive, and very concise.
Although Einar was too old to fight effectively in a time of war,
His advice, and his judgement, were just too good to ignore.
Even as the elder lay blind and very sick on his death bed,
The villagers paid homage, listened to every word he said.
And when Einar, the wise one, had sadly and quietly passed,
The whole village was heart broken, with thoughts downcast.
An old man named Galti stepped forward, and began to advise,
This elder was found to be very intelligent, as well as quite wise.
The patriarch Galti had lived in the village for sixty - five years,
He had shared with his folk many joys, and most of their tears......
