309. The Wishing Well
Of the spring that runs towards Jotunheim where lies the wishing well.
These mead - waters bubble up from the depths within the solid earth,
It is believed that this special well was formed at the universe' s birth.
The well' s owner is named Mimir, he drinks mead from it with the gjallarhorn,
This enigmatic God has been drinking there since the time that he was born.
Wise Mimir drinks mead freely from this bubbling well, each and every day,
But those visitors who venture to Mimisbrunnr are always forced to pay.
The waters that swirl within Mimir's well are too precious to give away for free,
For the potion in the spring contains knowledge and wisdom from the holy tree.
If you wish to drink from the sacred well, lean over and peer down over its edge,
And cast something most important to you into the waters as your sacred pledge.
One time, many years ago, when Odin came to Mimisbrunnr with a special need,
Mimir forced even the All - Father to pay a steep price for his knowledge greed.
Odin knew that he could not argue with Mimir, to his request he had but one reply,
To gain a drink of the mead of wisdom, All - Father was compelled to give up his eye !
