The Yule Log
Was found a large piece of wood for the annual Yule log.
It was placed on a sled, and dragged through the snow,
The drifts were quite deep, it made the going rather slow.
The town's folk cheered when they saw the Yule log's size,
As the men who found the log stood very proud of their prize.
In a circle, at the town' s square, were piled rocks with care,
They then took turns stacking long logs, in the cold winter air.
The new log was then placed under the wood they had stacked,
A few of the larger pieces were removed, it had been over packed.
The log was then lit with a small piece from last year's Yule fire,
And the tiny flame at its base quickly turned into a roaring pyre.
The town's folk danced round, both the old and the young,
As the local Skald told stories, and ancient songs were sung.
When the fire burned low, and the town's people went to bed,
The village was visited by their ancestors, who were dead.
