This month I want to start out honoring not an individual but all the children who were killed recently in a reported artillery attack in Syria that killed 30 or 40 children. On CNN I caught a news clip of a father carrying his murdered 6 or 7 year old daughter down the street in his arms, tears streaming down his cheeks. His grief is the worlds grief, when someone so young and with so much to live for is taken away from us too soon. Religion in my mind plays no part in honoring or not honoring people who die this way. That child probably did not give a damn about religion. I am sure she just wanted to go to school and be with her friends, and live the life that her God, or Gods, gave to her, but unfortunately evil people blew out the candle that was the life that burned within her.
I also will be honoring Etan Patz, who was one of the first " Milk Carton Kids ". 33 years ago he went missing without a trace in New York City. Recently a man finally came foward and told the authorities that he had strangled the unfortunate boy, and then placed him in a garbage bag. I hope that this will at least give his family some feeling of peace, even if they never find the child's body.
The final two I will be directly honoring, ( I cannot honor everyone by name who is taken from us, there are just too many ! ), are Arlet Hernandez Contreras, who was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, and Jo ann Bain 31, and her daughter Adrienne Bain, who were killed by a family friend who thought that two other children of Jo ann's were his. Just another case of a sick mind that became delusional and then violent.
May the Gods and Goddesses look after these innocent victims of violent crimes who were taken before their time. And may their families remember only the happy times, and move on from the horror that infected their lives. May all of the victims live in whatever heaven is a part of their religious, and cultural beliefs. May their after life be happy and may they be content until they are reunited with their loved ones. I raise my horn in silent honor and memorial !
