This horrible massacre happened as I was in the middle of writing my fictional short story, " A Temple Of Their Own ", ( posted in my fiction section). In my story a man named Richie Benton decides that to shut down the new Pagan temple he will kill several people and make it look like the Pagans committed the crimes. I was not sure if it was appropriate to write this character into my story because the violence seemed a little severe, and did not seem to fit in well with the main story of two religious groups coming together, or the love story between the reverend and the Godi that holds the storyline together. After I heard about this horrible tragedy, however, I realized that my fictional character was mild compared to the real hatred that exists in the world towards people of other faiths, and actually expanded his character somewhat. I also realized that something similar to this could, and probably will happen to us in the future, so we must be ever diligent !
My heart goes out to the families of these innocent victims, and I hope they will be able to come to terms with their grief. I have known, and worked with, several Hindu's in my lifetime, and they have all seemed like mild and very nice people. I hope that they will not judge others more harshly because of this horrendous incident, and will be able to move on with their lives. And to those who have to carry on without their loved ones, I offer you my deepest sympathy. It is always a terrible thing when anyone dies before their time.
