We need to stop worrying about other religions and their opinion of us, (unless it affects us directly), and concentrate on our religion and our multitude of problems. And yes our religion has a lot of problems ! We have already fractured into a multitude of organizations and associations with seperate identities and goals. The old standard still applies here in America, "United we stand, divided we fall." We have so many problems to deal with ! We need to stop the petty nonsense and work towards expanding and strengthening our religion. Do you wonder why I write from time to time about the Christian leaders ? it is because some day, when we have reached mainstream religious acceptance, we will have the same problems with our leaders !
And yes my friends we need true strong leaders who will speak for us and our religion. I mean, who is really speaking for us right now ? Our prominent people seem to be more interested in writing books and poems than doing anything of real meaning ! If you want to see real progress go to Iceland as I did ! I am very proud of the Icelandic Asatru, they have honored the Gods and Goddesses so much with their efforts !
Now is the time for us to jump into the mainstream religious arena here in the United States. Moderate Asatru practitioners are as good as any Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu etc... We deserve the same rights and respect as any of the above religions, and that is because we love and honor our Gods and Goddesses as much as they do theirs !
Like all religions we have a radical element which exists in our ranks. We must teach them proper Asatru values. Odin has handed down to us, in Havamal, a set of rules, or laws if you will, and to not follow them is to dishonor him. This we must not do ! If you believe that only Northern Europeans should be allowed into our ranks remember that the Eddas tell us that the Aesir let in the Vanir and quite a few of the Aesir married Jotuns and had children with them. They had no problems with outsiders so why should we !
In conclusion, I would like to thank you once again and say that we must all work very hard to revive and strengthen our religion. It is our duty to pass it on to the next generation much stronger than we ourselves received it. I am writing a blog trying to make people aware of our problems and trying to get our leaders to lead. It is a feeble act, but it is the best I can do. I also talk to non-pagans all the time about our religion and try to set them straight as to who we are and what we want. My question to you is, " Are you doing your best ?" Remember the Gods are watching !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
