Thrud means strength, and I could not see any child of Thor as being anything but strong..... or at the very least a little headstrong. Thrud is also mentioned in a listing of Valkyries. Whether this is the same individual or not has been debated over the years.
There is also a tantalizing kenning for the Giant Hrungnir, ( Ragnarsdrapa ) which calls him the thief of Thrud. Unfortunately any sources for this story have been lost to history.
Hlin is the other Goddess that I honor on the 26th of every month. I freely admit to having no contact with this Goddess, and some " scholars " believe that she is merely another name for Frigga. I tend to disagree. There are too many " scholars " in our religion who try to whittle down the number of our Gods and Goddesses by saying that they are one and the same. They say that many of the handmaidens of Frigga are simply other names for the All - Mother, or that Odr and Odin are the same etc....
I will take Snorri on his word when he says that " She ( Hlin ) is put to watch over those people whom Frigga wishes to protect from danger. I am also not vain enough to believe that all the Gods and Goddesses would want to spend time with someone as unspectacular as myself, so her not " speaking to me", is not a concern.
All Hail the great protector Hlin !
