The God I honor on the 7th of the month is Tyr, the one - handed God of War. Tyr KNEW that Fenrir would not be able to break the magical bonds made by the Dwarves, ( The Dwarves are truly the best craftsmen in the nine worlds ), and he knew that if he put his hand in the great beasts mouth, he would without a doubt lose it. And yet he reached way down within himself and found the honor and the courage to help bind the ever growing Fenrir, even at the cost of one of his hands.
I have had UPG, yes I know that everybody hates UPG' s, that Tyr not only does not mind the fact that he lost his hand, but to him it is a badge of courage much in the way arm rings were worn by the Vikings were. I can see Tyr showing off his wound of honor to every God, Elve, Dwarf, and Jotun, and then telling the tale of the binding of Fenrir in great detail. Great warriors always like to recount their adventures and acts of bravery and heroism ! It is also good to note that Snorri in Gylfaginning calls the spot where the wolf bit off Tyr' shand the " Wolf Joint ".
I believe that Tyr is the son of Jotun stock as it says in Hymiskvida, that Hymir is his kinsmen ( son ) and that at Hymir' s hall he met his grandmother who had : " Nine hundred heads", though it does say that his grandmother was " loathsome" looking to him. In this story he helps Thor and the rest of the Aesir get the large kettle that Aegir will brew their beer in.
Ironically Tyr is killed at the battle of Ragnarok by another great beast, the Hel hound Garm. Tyr, of course, kills the great beast as well.
I have the utmost respect and honor for the bravest of the Gods. Tyr would never ask for respect, but his acts demand that we give it !
All Hail The God Of War !
All Hail the One - handed God !
All Hail TYR !
The marriage of Nott and Dellingr is the marriage of morning light and the darkness of night. It is fitting then that their son Dagr (Day) would follow his parents around the worlds in an endless cycle.
I have been asked several times who and what Dellingr really is . I see Dellingr as a God of light and of hope. The hope that one feels as the darkness fades on the horizon and the dawn breaks over the rim of Mother Jord . Last year when Super storm Sandy tore the roof off of my house I had to stay " hunkered " down in my house, in the dark, until the Dawn God Dellingr brightened the morning sky and gave definition back to our world. Only then could I go out and assess the damage, and begin to see what needed to be done.
In man's earliest times the dawn was worshipped because the people of those periods did not have the ability to move around, gather food, or hunt at night. Only in the " Dawn' s early Light " could they once again become a part of their world and function without fear.
Along with the God Of War Tyr, I honor Dellingr on the 7th of every month.
All Hail Dellingr, God of the Dawn !
All Hail Dellingr, father of Dagr !
