The Abduction Of Thrudr
Wrath Of The Gods !
Hrungnir was not blind to the fact that two strangers had entered his lands. From the tower at the top of his great hall he saw the two tiny figures as they emerged from the forest into his rich fertile valley. The Jotun decided it was time to give these trespassers a not so warm welcome ! As he opened the gate that confined his guard dogs he laughed : " I need you to chase away two intruders from my land , my mangy little friends...... and if you catch them, kill them, and make a meal of them ! " Hrungnir yelled angrily. As he let them out of the open gate Hrungnir pointed to the other end of the valley, and yelled in a commanding voice : " Attack ! "
As the dogs bolted across the valley after their prey, Hrungnir smiled. The Jotun had carefully bred these dogs over many years. He had taken the fiercest of wolves, and mated them with the most horrific of monsters. The result was a canine that was three times the size of the largest wolf, with a head that was slightly disproportionate to the rest of its body. An elongated jaw, with very long, and very sharp teeth, jutted out from the creatures head making it look even more hideous. The saliva that drooled out over the teeth, and dripped off of their chins was a most potent poison. If the bite itself did not kill their victim their poisonous slobber would always, in short time, finish them off . As the dogs disappeared into the distance Hrungnir smiled. " Have fun my little monsters ! " he yelled after them. Hrungnir then ran back into his hall, and up the stairs to his tower to watch the show.
Modi spotted the creatures first, and pointed them out to Magni. In the distance the brothers saw two large animals running towards them at incredible speed. As they came closer the brothers could hear them making a strange sound. The odd noise they made was a mixture of a wolf's howl, a dragon's roar, and a dog's bark. The hideous sound alarmed the brothers greatly ! Modi drew his sword as they approached, and looked over at his brother who was unarmed. " Take one of my swords brother ! " Modi commanded. Magni smiled. " No need brother, I will be fine. " he replied calmly.
The dogs slowed to a walk when they came upon their victims. They slowly paced back and forth in front of the brothers making a low growling sound in the back of their throats. Suddenly, and without warning, the mangy monsters ran directly at the brothers. When they came closer they each picked a victim, and split apart, racing at full speed at Magni and Modi. Modi's attacker was faster, and reached him first. As the creature leaped into the air aiming for the God's throat, the angry God crossed his swords before him, and just as the monster was about to strike, Modi spread his arms out in a fast scissor's motion that cut the animal in half. The dog creature let out a few yelps before bleeding out on the floor of the valley. Magni, who was much calmer than his brother, allowed the monster to jump at his throat . With hands that were as quick as any weapon, Magni reached out at the last moment, and grabbed hold of the animals head with both hands. As the great beast shook violently in his hands, it tried to bite its victim. Magni could feel its hot breath on his face, and turned his head, not out of fear, but from the awful smell that emanated from the beasts mouth. " That is a stench that I have never smelled before ! " Magni told the beast as he winced in disgust. The young God moved his one hand to the creatures throat while holding the dogs head in place with his other. With a twisting motion, not much different than ringing out a towel, Magni broke the animals neck, killing it. Magni took one last look at the beast before throwing it on the ground. " I think Hrungnir knows we are here brother ! " Magni said with a smile.
Hrungnir was horrified as he watched his two prized pets being quickly killed by the intruders. " You will pay for that, you bastards ! " the Jotuns said out loud. Hrungnir ran downstairs to his dining hall. " Hrimthurs ! Thrasir ! Vasad ! " the Jotun lord yelled at the top of his lungs. As his voice echoed through the hall three warriors emerged from a side chamber. " Yes my lord ! " They answered almost in unison. " Grab your weapons and mount up ! There are intruders on my land, and I want them killed ! " Hrungnir shouted at them. " At once my lord ! " they replied without question. Hrungnir carefully watched as they checked their weapons, saddled their horses, and rode away from his hall. The Jotun lord once again ran up to his tower, jumping up three steps at a time ! He was angry ! Very angry !! And he wanted to see these intruders die !
Magni was first to see the three riders as their horses kicked up dust across the valley. " It seems that Hrungnir is sending us a welcoming party Modi ! " Magni told his brother with a big smile. " They are just more blood for my sword little brother ! " Modi replied. The Jotuns did not slow as they approached, but rode at full speed at the brothers. Vasad reached Modi first, and swung his great stone club at the God as he passed. Modi rolled below the feeble attempt, and as the horse passed he cut off the horse's rear legs. The horse fell onto its belly, and threw its rider to the ground hard ! Magni in the meantime uprooted a small tree, and swung it at the second Jotun as he tried to attack. Thrasir tried to pull up his horse, but it was too late, and he could not stop in time. The trunk of the tree struck him square in the forehead crushing his skull, and knocking him off of his horse. Magni watched as the Jotun hit the ground, and rolled over and over. He did not have time to see where he stopped because a third Giant was riding hard straight at him ! Hrimthurs, who had fallen slightly behind his two comrades, kicked his horse, lowered his great spear, and rode as fast as he could at Magni. The young God easily deflected the spear with his forearm, and with his other hand grabbed hold of the horse's neck. The horse stopped dead, but the rider went flying off of the horse, and landed at the feet of Modi. Dazed, the Jotun looked up in disbelief at the smiling youngster above him. " Good bye ! " Modi told the Jotun as he plunged both of his swords into the chest of the Giant.
Vasad was enraged ! Two of his brother Jotuns had been killed by these mere children right in front of him, and he decided that he was going to avenge their deaths, or die in the trying ! The angry Jotun pulled out his stone sword, and swung it back and forth violently at Modi. The young God blocked the Jotun's sword with one of his swords with ease, and with a lightning quick counter stroke, swung his other sword at the Giant. There was a sickening sound as Modi's sword cut cleanly through flesh, and ripped through muscle and bone. The arm did not come completely off, but dangled back and forth by a thin strip of flesh. The Jotun was stunned for a moment, but quickly composed himself, and swung his stone weapon again, as blood poured out of the gaping wound . Modi blocked the Jotuns weapon again. This time, however, he swung his sword on top of the Jotun's stone weapon forcing it into the dirt where he held it firmly in place by stepping on it. Before the Jotun could react Modi swung his other sword, and cut off the Giants other arm, which fell to the ground still holding the weapon. Modi moved back a few steps, and watched as the Jotun stood there in shock and disbelief . The stunned Giant stumbled backwards a few steps, before regaining his balance. As he did the strip of skin gave way, and his other arm fell off. Vasad remained upright for a few moments, then his eyes rolled back into his head, and his dead body crumbled to the ground. Magni moved over to his brother's side, and silently they both stared at Hrungnir's hall which was a short distance away. Modi raised his blood dripping swords, and pointed them at the hall as a warning to its inhabitants.
Hrungnir steadily became more and more afraid as the battle turned against his warriors. " How could this be ?! " the Jotun thought to himself. " How could two young boys kill my best warriors ?! " he shouted in disgust. Hrungnir ran down the tower stairs to the dining hall, and grabbed his great hone weapon off of the wall. The Jotun then made his way to the stable, and as fast as he could saddled his swift horse Gullfaxi. As he mounted he thought for a moment of taking Thrudr with him, but he decided against it when he saw how close the two young men were to his hall. Hrungnir, the fearless Giant, rode his horse out of the stable as fast as he could, and never looked back !
