The music for instance varies widely in taste and performance. Magnus Martensson does a comedy routine on the piano; Ruthann Cunningham, a classical Soprano, sings arias by Grieg and Sibelius; Norsewinds does everything from traditional folk music to Irish pub songs;and Eric Olsen's Jazz Quartet plays some mean jazz tunes( They are very good ). This year there are two very special guests as well. Harald Haugaard & Helene Blum, straight from Denmark, play old Danish ballads, and fiddle tunes, and Kaivama, from Minnesota will play Finnish - American music. I love the beat of Finnish music, it is very tribal.
On the lighter side their will be a Viking combat demonstration, a Swedish group who demonstrates medieval wrestling games, and feats of strength, a Viking longship, and even a wife carrying contest. Yes indeed a little bit of something for everbody.
If you live in the Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut area, or in New Jersey, it makes for a wonderful day. It is a great way to explore your Scandinavian roots, learn about our culture, and show your pride in a culture that I hope will never vanish or be watered down.
