Freyr falls in love with Gerd at first sight, and is in such bad shape (love sick ) that Njord become extremely worried about his son. Freyr sends his servant Skirnir to Gerd to offer her terms of marriage, which includes Freyr giving up his magic sword. Even after Gerd agrees to meet him in 9 nights he is still lovesick and cries out that he does not know how he will endure the 9 long nights without her.
Freyja loves her husband so much that she cries tears of red gold when he is away. She also longs for him so much that she travels among the nine worlds looking for Odr. It is said that she has been among so many different peoples that like Odin she is known by many names.
Nanna is so heartbroken when her husband, the shining Balder, is killed by Hodr, that she dies of her grief and is carried out to his funeral ship and placed next to him on the funeral pyre. She is also with him in Niflheim when Hermod comes to obtain Balder's release. She literally went to Hel and back for her husband.
Sigyn Loves her husband Loki so much that when he is bound to a rock and a serpent placed over his head to drip poison on his face for his part in the killing of Balder, Sigyn patiently sits by his side holding a bowl over his face to catch the poisons. It is said that when she has to empty it and the poisons do hit Loki the ground trembles from his pain.
Yes my friends, our religion is about the Viking Warrior spirit, but our Gods show us that there is a place for love in our religion as well !
