Here in America, the Right Wing Christian Coalition is very well organized, well funded, and very well connected to Washington, D.C., politically. The Tea Party, is in my opinion, not so much a grass roots movement , but a Right Wing Christian Organization that is against anything they see as anti - American, or anti - Christian. That includes all non - Christian religions, immigration, same sex marriage, gays in the military, and abortion. Their lobbyists, and now elected officials, run all over Washington spreading their right wing view points, and hidden agendas. They are a cancer that wants to eat away at our freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of choice.
What are these Christians really afraid of ? And what is their real agenda ? What I think these white, right wing, puritanical, Christians want is to bring America back to the 1950 ' s. Back before Civil Rights, back before gays came, "out of the closet", back before immigration tipped the balance in favor of minorities, back before Roe vs. Wade, and back before non - Christian religions became a force here in America. That I believe is what their true agenda is !
But you can't go back to the 50's, and Andy Griffith, and Mayberry my friends ! ( Was there ever even an African American on that show ?) This is the year 2011, and too many people have fought too many battles, for too many years, to ever go back to those days. We live in a free country, in a free world, and have the Gods given right to make the choices that we want to make. As long as what we choose hurts no one, then no religion, no government body, and no individuals, or groups, should impede, or harrass, those who have made these choices. And yet go outside of many abortion clinics nationwide, and harrassment is exactly what you see. Burning the Koran, or any religious items from another religion, is a form of harrassment.
During the sixties I really thought that we were coming closer together as people in the world at large, but the polarization, and the prejudice that I have seen over the past 20 years has changed my mind greatly. Especially because it is accompanied by hatred, intolerance, and most recently violence ! Is this what religion teaches people ? I hope not, and I know I have not been taught by our Asatru Gods and Goddesses to hate. The agenda that I have been taught is to understand, and appreciate, that we are all different, and therefore all have something unique to bring to the community table. I hope for the day when people will except those who are different, but I do not think that I will see that in my lifetime.
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja' s love, and Thor's protection !
