What I have done over the years is to try and take as many of these secular holidays and turn them into a religious ritual day. All- Father's Day is just one example. Our male Gods are fathers just as we Midgardian males are fathers. The only difference is that their offspring are divine in purpose and in power.
What a loss it would have been if Odin did not have children ! Where would we be without Thor, Balder, Vidar, Vali, Hodr, and Hermod ? And what of Thor's children ! What a loss it would be if Magni, Modi, and Thrudr had never been born. Njord too gave us Freyr and Freyja, and in turn Odr gave to Freyja, Gersemi and Hnoss. Even Balder whose life is to be cut short gave us Forseti with his wife Nanna. And of course there would have been no Odin if not for his father Bur and his grandfather Buri. To further make my point Odin's mother Bestla would not have existed if not for her father the Jotun Bolthorn.
It is said that Heimdall came to Midgard, and spawned not merely a child or two, but no less than the three classes of mankind. And finally, no matter how you feel about Loki he too is a father with Sigyn, having brought forth the children Nari and Narfi.
Yes, my friends, we have a lot to thank these divine fathers for, and turning a money making holiday into a religious ritual day to honor these " God Fathers " seems only right and fitting.
We owe the great deities of our faith much more than we could ever possibly repay them for. Adding a ritual day here and there on our yearly calendar is not too much to ask in my opinion.
Of course today is also a day to honor one's own father . Don' t play into the secular trap and buy him some gift that he may or may not like or want. Spend the day with your father ! Invite him over for a barbecue, go fishing with him, or take him to a ball game. Take it from someone whose father has passed away, once they are gone all you have are the memories. So my advice to you all is spend the day with your father and make some memories that will last your lifetime !
