Writing short stories is not as easy as you might think. I just spent 3 hours looking up all the names of Jotuns to choose those who will fight against the Aesir in my new short story ' Skadhi : Allegiances'.
I had to make sure not to use Jotuns who were sympathetic to the Aesir, like Grid, and of course could not use any who were already dead such as Sokkmimir, killed by Odin, or Geirrod, Hrungnir, and Thrivaldi killed by Thor, or Beli killed by Freyr ( with an antler ).
This story is about the Jotuns anger over the killing of Thjazi by the Gods, and Skadhi' s decision to marry, and become a member of the Aesir. After a trial, held in a court made by Utgard - Loki, in which many Gods and Jotuns testify for and against Skadhi, a war breaks out between the Aesir, and Jotuns in Thrymheim.
My story is literally a who' s who of the Eddas, and includes well over 50 names from those Eddas. I try to make my stories as authentic as possible, but it does take time.
