Well, naturally the first thing we will need is a heirarchy of clergy. So we train or elect individuals to represent our religion and our temple. Now what we have is someone telling us what the Holy Scriptures mean, not necessarily however, what they mean to us ! No two people in any religion practice rituals in exactly the same way. So now we have to express our love for our Gods and Goddesses through their interpretation of how the ritual should be conducted. At this point we are just going through their motions, not ours ! When we lose the ability to express our love for the Gods and Goddesses, our way, the purity of our love for the Gods and Goddesses is compromised. And the Gods and Goddesses will know it ! Oh, we might be allowed some input as to how the ritual should be conducted or what words are said, but it will never be as perfect to us as it would be if it were totally our way and with our words !
The next thing we need is a place to hold our rituals. Lets opt for a permanent structure, O' K ! Once we find our new temple there will be a need to raise and /or collect money for utilities, maintenance, and other expenses. Then we have to decide how much each member is to give. Is it to be a voluntary contribution, or a required amount ? Both cause ill will and embarrassment ! Catholics even ask for a percentage of your income ! Now after we collect this money we have to have someone to take care of it. A treasurer or an accountant will do just fine. Oh, and eventually we will need to get an auditor, because when there are large sums of money, there can be, and usually is trouble. And of course we have to set up bank accounts to handle checking and savings so we can pay our bills.
Most religions plan trips, flea markets, picnics, bingo, and teach classes. The Catholic churches by me even have small carnivals come every year and set up in their parking lots. Well you need a planning board for this, or at least a committee. You know, we should have a magazine or at least a newsletter to get our message out there to people ! Well this leads to a whole new list of individuals we will need to add to our heirarchy and at least one new committee. One Pagan magazine, on their inside cover, lists all the following to publish their magazine: Steerswoman, Vice - Steer, Secretary, Reckoner of Accounts, High Steward, Shope, Editor, Provost, Lore Program, Warder of the Lore, Clergy Coordinator, Publicity, Kap Coordinator, and then it goes on to list a whole bunch of people who are on the board of directors.
Now what we have created is not a religion, it is an organization. And for all you out there who are into it, more power to you. Enjoy it ! It is all yours ! But for me religion isn't about magazines, clergy, money, or even having a permanent structure to honor our Gods and Goddesses in. It is about the love one person has for his/her Gods and Goddesses, and how he/she expresses that love for them. That to me is the beauty of religion ! To me that is religion !
