However, I have been reading more and more on - line about individuals who not only honor our Gods and Goddesses, but the Gods and Goddesses from other religions as well ! They cross over into the realms of the Hellenes, the Romans, the Celts, Hindus etc...., and even into Christianity. This actually puzzles the hell out of me ! Let me first say that I have great respect for all religions, and feel that people have the Gods given right to honor any deities they so choose. Having said that, I don't understand why people would choose to crossover. Do Gods from different religions really call to the same person ? I guess if your mother was Greek, and your father was Scandinavian this could happen. But how do you honor both Gods without insulting, or ignoring the other Gods ? Do you have to have seperate altars for each religion ? Do you need to learn the dynamics of two totally different ways, and practices of honoring them ? And what do you do when you want to call on, for instance, a Goddess of healing ? Do you choose one, or do you call both ? How do you choose ? This is a concept that I cannot even begin to understand . I am Asatru because the Triad of Gods, Thor, Freyja and Odin called to me all those years ago. No God, or Goddess from any other religion has ever touched me in any way, shape, or form. They have never spoken to me, and quite frankly I hope they never do! I am British on my mothers side of the family, but have never felt any inclination, or tug, from the Celtic religion, or the ancient Druids. I never really wanted religion in the first place ( I was an Agnostic for years ) , but after years of the Gods and Goddesses communicating with me I finally relented. To have multiple pantheons of Gods and Goddesses speaking to me would scare the hell out of me, and probably drive me crazy !
There are some bloggers who seem to crossover from one religion to another with relative ease. Whether they are doing this to reach more readers, show off their knowledge of other religions, or maybe just be popular, I do not know. But it seems to me to be unnatural, and almost, disrespectful to our Asatru Gods and Goddesses to honor other deities from outside our pantheon, and that of our ancestors. I believe that my Gods and Goddesses called to me because the blood that flows through my veins is Germanic / Scandinavian. My Gods and Goddesses called to me because they were the Deities that my ancestors worshipped. The Gods and Goddesses who created the Germanic / Scandinavian race ! For me there can only be one All - Father, and one All - Mother, and they are Odin and Frigga. When I think of the son of our holy father, I see Balder or Thor, not Jesus Christ !
I hope that people will comment on this because I really am trying to understand the concept of accepting multiple pantheons of Gods and Goddesses into our hearts. Unfortunately, the concept has the same appeal to me as having more than one wife. None at all ! I give all my time, and love, to my Gods. I have no extra love, or passion, for the Gods from other pantheons !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love, and Thor's protection !
