In Response To Your E - Mails ( Feast Of The Hunters )

11/27/2011

First of all let me thank everyone for their positive responses to my article on, "The Feast of the Hunters". Several folk have asked me where I obtained all of the weaponry that I place around my altar for this ritual, and I thought it would be more appropriate to write a short article, as opposed to e - mailing each individual with that information. The placing of related items, on and around an altar, is very important in order to honor the Gods and Goddesses with the respect and love that they deserve. For instance when honoring Freyja you would not want to place weapons on your altar, to honor her. By the same token you would not place necklaces, rings, and bracelets on an altar to Tyr, or in this case Skadhi and Ullr. You also do not have to have the amount of items I place on my altar. I have been doing this for.... well..... lets just say many years, and leave it at that ! For Ullr and Skadhi, for example, if all you had was a bow and a quiver full of arrows that's fine. Quiver, by the way, is a word we got from the great horseback riding, archer, Hunni peoples.  I actually had to look up the plural for Hun. I' ve never used that word before !

The main source for my weapons is a place called : Museum Replicas Limited. I will put their address and phone number at the end of the article. Incredibly they do not list a web - site on their catalogue,  though I am sure they must have one. Just as an example of what they currently carry I will list them here : Viking style clothes, and jewelry, two types of spearheads ( Go to your local lumberyard and get round stock wood to make your own shaft . I did and it looks great ! ) 3 types of Viking swords, Dragon axe, helmet, shield, seax, and a drinking horn, w/built in stand. The bow I ordered from Amazon.com. Make sure to buy a simple bow not a compound bow to represent Ullr and Skadhi. They did not have fancy bows in the days of the Vikings. The bow was less than forty dollars from what I remember, and came with several arrows and a quiver. I will not lie to you about the items from Museum replica's limited, they are a little pricey. They are, as their name implies, museum replicas and quite authentic !

I hope that this information is helpful to those building their altars for rituals involving warriors. I know I wish that someone had given me this information all those years ago ! Enjoy.......... and happy hunting !
