The Queen Of Pain © 2016
This is a rendition of Gunnlod, but it is close to how I see the beautiful Queen Birsla.
Birsla, the wife of King Kaldstein of Rogaland, lives in a shadowy world of verbal abuse, physical violence, and rape. Living as royalty, and yet feeling more miserable than the lowest beggar, Birsla is forced to deal every day with the guilt and shame of the bruises and black eyes which she can not hide, or cry away. A quiet woman, afraid to speak or interact with others, she has become an empty shell of the person she was destined to be.
Many try to protect her, like the commander of the royal guard, Vetr, and Brettifa, her faithful handmaiden. And everyone pities her for the situation she has been forced into, but what can be done ? Her husband is the king, and he has absolute power ! And Brisla, is nothing more than the Queen of Pain !
Queen Brisla is on the knife's edge ! One side of the blade holds death for her the next time the king attacks, while on the other side of the blade there is freedom from the nightly torture,..... and holding the blade is the Goddess Freyja ! Which way will the blade turn for Brisla ? Fate can change a destiny, or it can ruin the most promising dreams. What will the Norns weave for Queen Brisla ? Will the tapestry of her life reveal hope and the promise of a better future, or will the weaving be soiled with blood and the death of another innocent ? !
