371. A Better Spiritual Place
Never completely satisfied with what lies more closely at hand,
Contentment is something that is extremely difficult to teach,
For so many have forgotten how to ask, and callously demand.
In a world that offers so very much, many want more and more,
They have learned the lesson of taking, and forsaken to give,
Century old wounds are kept open to someday settle the score,
So many afraid to die, and far too few with the courage to live.
In a culture that projects only "me", we have forgotten the other,
Nothing is our fault, for it surely must be someone else's blame,
Hold fair weather friends, over the bonds of sister and brother,
Lost the Gods' given sense of honor, replaced it with shame.
In the darkness of our own making we stumble and grope,
Searching for what alludes us in the shadows of our disgrace,
Yet as pitiful as we have become, we still hold out a ray of hope,
As we struggle to make our way back to a better spiritual place.
