224. Night Journey
My conscious spirals down into a void so very deep.
I am transported in a leap to familiar worlds that are nine,
Where exist too many images for my intellect to intertwine.
It is hard to focus on any point, all that is tends to overwhelm,
I see the misty world, and off in the distance the golden realm.
Climb the rocky heights of the cold lands known as Jotunheim,
Altogether in one place, and located at the same point in time.
I have seen Mighty Thor lead his goats as he crossed the sky,
And have heard the Vanir Goddess Freyja let out a sorrowful sigh.
Watched in awe as Odin rode Sleipnir across the rainbow bridge,
While Skadhi, in Thrymheim, took careful aim from up on a ridge.
Stood by as the God Freyr and the Giantess Gerd were wed,
With tears in my eyes looked down on Balder as he lay dead.
Hid behind a tree to avoid three monster maidens at the well,
Then listened closely to the wonderful stories Bragi had to tell.
I have seen creatures far too horrible for me even to share,
Stood in their filthy nests, at times been trapped in their lair.
Then every morning I awake, convinced it had to be a dream,
Because if I did not lie to myself, I am quite sure I would scream !
