Once again we have a Christian leader who is paranoid that some of his followers will either stray from his hard line views on their religion, or possibly even break with the church altogether. No pun intended, but I think Mr. Mohler is stretching the truth a little about yoga and meditation. As an excercise yoga is a great way to keep your body flexible and in shape. And Mr. Mohler, isn't praying a form of meditation ? You close your eyes, clasp your hands together, clear your mind, and reach out to your God through prayer,(instead of chanting). Maybe you, Mr. Mohler, should have, "faith", in your congregants to know what is right and wrong for themselves !
Mr. Mohler further commented that these Christian practioners of yoga, " fail to see the contradictions between their Christian commitments and their embrace of yoga." Maybe they just don't care if it contradicts it Mr Mohler. This Baptist leaders attitude is the same as those who ban certain classic books from our schools libraries and reading lists because they don't meet the standards of their ultra pure thinking.
In this country we now have two big brothers intruding into our personal freedom of choice: One is of course the government, the other, which is gaining in power and influence, are the various leaders of all these different religious groups. They love to sit in their little realm of power and tell you what to do, what to think, and even how to feel. Maybe what the Christians need is a breakaway sect called Independent Christians. Maybe if they broke away from their overbearing church leaders, as Martin Luther broke away from Catholicism, they could have the freedom to worship and pursue outside activities without the church looking over their shoulders telling them what to do.
This is why I have been moving further and further away from organized religion ! Our religion already has some of these my way or the highway type of individuals telling us the true way to honor our Gods and Goddesses. I am tired of anyone, and everyone, telling me how to honor our Gods. Religion is a very personal relationship between us and our God(s), and no other human being knows exactly how we feel about Them or what They are asking of us. These leaders do not have the right to tell you what God(s) or what method you should use to honor them ! So if yoga is your, "thing", enjoy it and turn a deaf ear towards your big brother !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
