This gentleman also pre - supposed that we all have some invisible bond that holds us together under the Pagan moniker. My response to that is that other than all of us being non - monotheistic, and outside of the Christian sphere of influence, outcasts if you will, I see no, "bond", between my Asatru religion, and the Wiccans for example. I have bonds of friendship with other non - Christians, but it is a one on one bond, and has nothing to do with the bonding of my religion to theirs.
This blogger also seemed to be implying that the word, "Pagan", was just an overall title, and that Asatru was our subtitle. I disagree with this wholeheartedly ! I see my religion as Asatru, and my subtitle as either, Icelandic Asatru, Independent Asatru, or Modern Asatru. Using his point of view I guess we should call all monotheists, non - Pagans.
I admit that I am guilty of using the, "Pagan", word myself to describe our non- monotheistic religions. It has become so integrated into our thinking that I / we use it the same way African Americans use the "N" word among themselves. In the future I am going to make a concerted effort to stop using the "P" word , I will only use it to describe us from the Christian - Roman point of view, or from the point of view of those Christians that hate us. Oh yes, some very much hate us ! If you catch me using it, outside of this context in the future, you have my permission to yell at me !
No, I am sorry, but I will never like being called a ,"Pagan", or any other overall name for that matter, to describe my beliefs. I am Asatru, I have faith in the Aesir. I guess you could add Vanirtru as well. The only " P " word that I will ever recognize as pertaining to my beliefs is, "Polytheist ". At least that describes who and what I am !
Go with Odin's wisdom, Freyja's love and Thor's protection !
